Yo for iOS now lets you share pictures, even with groups

YoTNW

The simple messaging app Yo is now a bit more complex, but in a good way.

With version 2.0, Yo-ers (is that what they’re called?) can now send pictures to each other. Just like sending text, pics are simple and straightforward; no memes, no GIFs — just pics.

In addition to pics, Yo also has a new user interface for sending messages. Users now swipe left or right to choose what to send, and up or down to pick who they’d like to send it to.

There are also Yo groups, which lets you send a pic, location or ‘Yo’ to a selection of people.

Yo will also let you invite new friends, who can view your ‘Yo’s’ or reply without even signing up for the service.

And hey — there’s a new Yo inbox where you can find all your missed Yo’s, yo.

The update is live for iOS; the company did not specify if an Android update is forthcoming.

Adobe launches its first Creative Cloud mobile apps on Android

Following much clamor on the part of Android users — and keeping its promise — Adobe has launched four Creative Cloud apps on the Google Play store.

In addition to Photoshop Mix, Adobe’s so-called “capture apps”  — Color CC, Brush CC and Shape CC — formerly only on iOS, are now out for Android.

Whether on iOS or Android, these apps are part of  Adobe’s mobile strategy to offer more apps with discrete functions rather than a single all encompassing Photoshop-type app. This keeps operations focused and simple, tailored to people who need to zero in on a particular function.

Mix combines images, changes colors and otherwise enhances photos, letting you share composites with friends through social networks and send photos to the desktop Photoshop CC for further work.

Shape CC lets you capture and convert images into vector graphics for use in Adobe Illustrator CC or Adobe Photoshop CC.

You can use Brush CC to convert photos or graphics into unique brushes for use in Adobe Photoshop CC or Illustrator CC. Color CC lets you sample colors in a scene to create themes for use in Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.

In addition, Adobe is releasing Hue CC to its stable of iOS apps, letting you create custom filters and looks for Adobe’s video apps, Premiere Pro, Premiere Clip and After Effects CC.

Preview CC, also available now, lets you preview your designs on multiple iOS devices.

All the apps are free and available to anyone, whether or not they are members of the Creative Cloud subscription service.

Google Sheets updates charting, filtering and pivoting features to take on Excel

Google Sheets is getting a bit more powerful today in its battle to take on Excel thanks to a slew of updates.

Now you can add data labels to display the exact value for bars or points on a graph. You can also change the shapes of your data points – stars, triangles, pentagons and more are available to pretty up your document and differentiate different lines.

When you input formula, Sheets will now automatically preview results instantly as you type – Google says it’s particularly useful for catching errors quickly.

You can also filter rows and columns by conditions such as “greater than”and “text contains,” while pivot tables now allow you to add calculated fields to apply formulas to your data. A GETPIVOTDATA function also makes it easier to retrieve data from your tables.

A big part of Google Docs is the ability to collaborate with users, but that has it’s consequences too. Previously, your choices were pretty black and white; either you allow someone to collaborate or you deny them access.

Now you can also add a warning to prompt users before they make changes to a cell – useful to prevent accidental mistakes.

The updated sheets is rolling out to everyone today.

Bing will soon encrypt your search queries by default

If you’re using Bing to search the Web, your queries will soon be encrypted by default.

The option to encrypt your questions to Bing has been available for about 18 months, but Microsoft will make it standard starting “this Summer.”

In an attempt to satisfy everyone involved, Microsoft will still use a referrer string “so that marketers and webmasters will be able to identify traffic as coming from Bing,” but will not include your query terms.

Webmasters can access limited query term data, but Microsoft says your information will never be at risk.

Microsoft admits the change may affect marketers and advertising inititatives, but considers “a more secure search experience” for users more important.

Netflix officially launches its redesigned website

New_Netflix_Website_EN (1)

Netflix has finally unveiled its new website, after rumors about an upgrade began flying around a few weeks ago.

The company says the new designed looks to make finding content to watch faster and easier. It’s designed to look more like a mobile app than “a series of linked web pages” – that includes optimization for touchscreen too.

BoB_EN

Information about videos will appear in-line rather than needing to load up a separate page, while hovering over a title will also provide a slideshow of images about the show to help you decide if you actually want to watch it.

Once you click on a title, a details pane will pop up to see reviews and more info. A “More Like This” feature also helps you find related titles if you’ve already seen something.

The new design is rolling out today – although it may take up  to two weeks before you see it on your own account. Netflix notes you may have to upgrade your browser if you’ve been using an old version.
