Labor trends come and go. Occasionally, they come back again. Earlier in American history — especially during the Industrial Revolution — piecework was a common labor practice across all fields of work. Workers were paid on a per-piece basis, and this offered a high level of flexibility to employers and incentives to good employees. But as time went on and industries continued to develop, piecework fell by the wayside and was replaced by the salaried 9-to-5 positions we are all too familiar with. Today, however, with technology powering the modern sharing economy, we’re experiencing a rampant resurgence of independent contractors —…

Flir 1.1
Flir, which started life as an industrial thermal imaging device for contractors and sports enthusiasts, has evolved into a full-fledged consumer gadget with a variety of uses. The company is releasing a new, smaller, higher resolution version of its Flir One plug-in camera accessory for iOS. An Android device is imminent. The device shows you thermal images that let you see in the dark, view invisible heat sources, compare relative temperatures and see through light, fog and smoke. Flir says its device can detect temperature variations smaller than a tenth of a degree, so you can identify energy inefficiencies and water leaks at home…

Designers are people too, and they often seek knowledgeable feedback from their peers for creative concepts and projects. That’s the idea behind a new integration between InVision, the design collaboration platform and Dribbble, the design community. The collaboration now offers some 900,000 InVision users one-click sharing and feedback from Dribbble’s 800,000-strong designer social network. “As active users of Dribbble, InVision knows firsthand the value that comes from connecting with the Dribbble community at every stage of the creative process,” Clark Valberg, InVision CEO told TNW. “Many of our users already rely on Dribbble for sharing their creative work and receiving feedback from their peers. Dribbble…

Kerry said, “We need to work through how all countries are going to behave, but particularly how we’re going to work this out in terms of the bilateral relationship.” The US had previously accused China of hacking…
