The ultimate way to kill off your old CDs

Just when you thought your old CDs had no value or purpose, someone gives you an excuse to hang on to them for a little while longer. YouTuber JZSlenker got creative and used a $15 angle grinder and a bit of craftsmanship to build this simple yet epic CD gun. Sure, he built it in 2013 – but that doesn’t mean we don’t have extra discs lying around in 2015. I’m off to build my own version and dig out a few classic discs. The only decision left is whether ‘ABBA Greatest Hits’ or ‘Spice World’ gets obliterated first. Read next: Watch an…

Facebook is making it a lot easier to find and share links on your posts – if you’re an iOS user. Now when you write a post, a link icon will appear above your keyboard that will allow you to search for and share Web links right from the Facebook app. It’s a convenient change for mobile. While it’s easy to open up a new tab on the desktop when you’re already using a browser to access Facebook anyway, having to exit your Facebook App, open a browser and then copy and paste a link on your phone is just…

The BBC is listing its pages removed from Google ‘as a contribution to public policy’

Now that Google has begun removing links in response to Europe’s ‘right to be forgotten’ law, the BBC is cataloging its links that have been taken down. Though the links will no longer be found via Google search, they do remain live on the BBC website archive. In an effort to remain transparent to license fee payers — and provide a central place for users to find links they may not via Google — the BBC has a dedicated portal for affected links. The BBC also feels they owe it to readers to cache the links: We are doing this…

Apple removing the Confederate flag from iOS games won’t help fight racism

Apple started removing a ton of apps and games featuring Confederate flags from its App Store today. As much as the Confederate flag needs to go, censoring it everywhere is a problem. After the racially-motivated shooting on June 17, state governments and major retailers alike took action to rid themselves of the flag and make acquiring one harder. It’s tragic that it took 150+ years and nine innocent deaths for so many to take action. Today Apple made its own move, unlisting a ton of apps featuring the flag from the App Store, mostly Civil War games. It’s unnecessary, and…

TNW_photos
This year is the year of the cloud-based photo library, with Apple, Google and Facebook all now pushing to be the place you choose as home for your photos. Now that there are so many great places to keep your photos safe, it was about time to compare them and look at where the best place to put your precious shots. Google Photos Google launched its new photo service to much fanfare at its developer conference, Google I/O. Google Photos will backup an ‘unlimited’ amount of images for free, provided you don’t mind them being downsized to 16 megapixels. If you do, you…
