To streamline Android development efforts, Google will focus on building tools for Android Studio. The company will also stop supporting other Integrated Development Environments (IDE) at the end of this year, like Eclipse. Noting that Google would like to focus exclusively on Android Studio moving forward, Android Product Manager Jamal Eason writes, “to focus all of our efforts on making Android Studio better and faster, we are ending development and official support for the Android Developer Tools (ADT) in Eclipse at the end of the year. This specifically includes the Eclipse ADT plugin and Android Ant build system.” Android Studio is…

On one hand, “growth hacking” is quite an overused buzz word which personally makes me cringe, on the other one it well communicates the essence of experimental online marketing techniques adopted by startups and small businesses so as to extend their user base fast and cheap. Big enterprises with copious budgets can usually afford to pour tens of thousands of dollars into traditional (e.g. print, TV, radio) and digital (e.g. search engine advertising, web banners, mobile advertising) marketing channels. Starting entrepreneurs, by contrast, truly need to think out of the box in order to assert their position on the market — by…

Google is helping stop you from accidentally clicking on mobile ads

Being redirected to an advertiser’s page when you didn’t mean to click a banner ad is frustrating. Today, Google has announced changes that will help eliminate those mis-clicks and feverish taps on the back button. Clicks that happen too close to an image’s sides will now be blocked from redirecting you to a new page. Google says its studies show the edge of images are prone to accidental clicks, so it’s taking the border out of the click-through equation. App icons can no longer be used for installs when a call-to-action button exists. According to Google, “on in-app interstitial ads, users…

In case you haven’t heard, today is a great day for love in the US. meerkat embed
Not to be outdone by Periscope’s Web replay integration this week, Meerkat is now allowing users to embed its videos on any website. Previously, to watch Meerkat videos, you had to click through from the direct link or watch via the Meerkat app. Now, users have the option to embed a video from any Meerkat account in portrait, square, or big square formats. They can also opt to autoplay the video in mute, upload a custom cover image and choose to display viewer interactions. The hope, of course, is to still be able to steer users away from Periscope by making its content more…
