Quotable

"U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said publicly that the United States would not intervene in Syria, because the American Congress views second generation Syrian dictator Bashar Assad as a reformer. Is that because his live ammunition is reformed, or because his state sponsorship of terrorism and repressive abuse of human rights and free speech are so humanitarian?" ~ Yasha Harari

accelerator
There are plenty of great accelerators that have track records in supporting entrepreneurs, but not every programme is open about its motives, and it’s an unfortunate fact of life that there are organisations that deliberately mislead founders. It’s important for accelerator programmes to be open and transparent with startups — before, during and after the programme, because a bad accelerator can not only damage a team’s prospects, they can kill them outright. Today, Ignite is launching an Accelerator Manifesto. It’s a list of basic, actionable statements that all programmes should meet with ease if they’re willing to be transparent with startups. This…

OS X is a pretty operating system under normal circumstances. But viewed on the 5k display of the new iMac, it’s other-worldly. For a chance to look at this beauty on your desk every day, you just need to enter our giveaway. That’s right, we’re giving away a 5K iMac valued at $1,999. The 27-inch Retina iMac has an almost unbelievable resolution of 5120×2880, but a pretty picture isn’t all it offers. Under the hood, there is a quad-core 3.3GHz i5 processor, and 8GB of RAM. In other words, it is the dream machine for any videographer, developer or photographer…

Shyp now classifies its courier drivers as employees, not contractors

Shyp_LA
Shyp, the on-demand courier service, has switched all drivers to W2 employees. The company calls it “an investment in a longer-term relationship with our couriers, which we believe will ultimately create the best experience for our customers.” The change won’t affect Shyp’s other main roles, satellite van drivers or warehouse personnel, as they were already employees. W2 couriers will get the full compliment of benefits Shyp provides like unemployment and workers compensation, and Shyp will also pay for all vehicle expenses. As the service grows, Shyp says it wants to provide “additional supervision, coaching, branded assets and training” for couriers;…

Watch Michael Fassbender playing Christian Bale playing Steve Jobs

The first extended trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs movie is here and Michael Fassbender still looks absolutely nothing like the Apple co-founder. In fact, he seems to be channelling Christian Bale. Seth Rogan does a fair impression of Steve Wozniak though. And the quote in there about the graphical user interface being stolen? It’s a myth. Xerox PARC got a million dollars in Apple stock. But then, Sorkin tends to go with legends over facts. Just ask Mark Zuckerberg. Read next: 10 Steve Jobs videos you should watch instead
