Neil Young is pulling his music from streaming services, calls it ‘the worst audio in history’

Neil Young, a new-age snake oil salesman who wants you to buy his Pono player, is vowing to pull his music from all streaming services. His reason? “Streaming is the worst audio in history.” In a series of Facebook posts, Young says some pretty outlandish things. First, he says AM radio “kicked streaming’s ass,” then says analog cassettes and 8-tracks did the same. Take a knee: Neil Young says analog recordings and low amplitude radio are better than any streaming service, even the “lossless” Tidal and AAC-coded Apple Music. It’s worth noting Young’s Pono player asks that you purchase music. In…

SanFranciscoHousing
San Francisco is really wrestling with how short-term rentals affect the city as a whole: are they a helpful way for citizens to get income, or do they add insult to the injury that is the city’s absurd housing situation? The San Francisco Board of Supervisors, which includes mayor Ed Lee, met last night to assess two amendments to the city’s current short-term rental laws: one would put a hard 75-day limit on all short-term rentals in the city, while the other would not introduce a hard cap. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Supervisors voted to enact the more…

Web design platform Webydo has a new look, and some new tools. Webydo 2.0 is “up to four times faster” than its predecessor, and offers a “Full White Label” solution for professional designers and agencies. The Webydo website is also new, designed by digital creative agency Hello Monday. Explaining the redesign, Webydo says it “provides a balance between richness of professional features and user-friendliness. The platform allows designers to craft, manage and host media rich websites seamlessly, with no excess rendering or uploading time.” A Full White Label option allows professional designers to give customers an all-in-one solution. System colors…

Anonymous, location-based app Yik Yak — which has largely gained traction with teens and college kids — announced today that it will allow its users to share photos anonymously, too. You know, as long as those photos are appropriate and don’t contain a single human face. It seems that the folks at Yik Yak want users to take photos that “describe the world” around them: From showcasing the prime loot to be found at your local yard sale, to sharing the view of campus from your dorm window, to the yakker who used a pic to help locate the owner…

Twitter Data Dashboard
Twitter wants to help you make sure you’re the only one accessing your Twitter account. Today it’s rolling out a new data dashboard to help keep tabs on who’s been accessing your information. The dashboard is available via the settings menu on twitter.com under the ‘Your Twitter Data’ section. It will list information on when you account was activated, the individual devices that have accessed your account, and recent login history (down to the exact time). It’ll also show which apps have accessed your information, as well as the IP address attached to them. You can then scour that information…
