Confirmed: eBay sells its Enterprise unit for $925 million

eBay confirmed today that it has reached an agreement to sell its Enterprise unit to a consortium led by private-equity firm Permira for $925 million. The group includes Sterling Partners, Longview Asset Management and Innotrac Corporation, a Sterling Partners portfolio company, partnered with companies owned by the Permira Fund. As reported by The WSJ yesterday, the company has been looking to sell the Enterprise unit since the beginning of this year. eBay Enterprise was hit with a tough blow last week as Toys ‘R’ Us announced its plans to take its business elsewhere by the middle of next year. Jolla’s Sailfish OS hits 2.0, rolling out to existing users soon

Jolla may have given up on its hardware ambitions this week, but it’s still working on its Sailfish operating system. It’s shared today that Sailfish 2.0 is finished and is now available for hardware builders to use. Sailfish 2.0 focuses on a new user interface to make it easier to use and the company says it’s much faster to get around, as well as improving the overall performance on devices. Siri calls emergency services when you ask it to charge your iPhone

Ask Siri to “charge my phone 100 percent” and your iPhone will automatically begin calling emergency services, as spotted by The Verge. It’s a strange quirk that could either save your life or get you in trouble. It’s probably just a bug as it works in iOS 8, but not in the public beta of iOS 9, as we found in our testing. One could use this trick to to discreetly phone the police in an emergency situation, like a home invasion or store robbery. Angry Birds 2 catapults into app stores on July 30

Rovio has revealed that the next installment of the infamous Angry Birds will be released worldwide on July 30. Simply named Angry Birds 2 – even though it’s technically the sixteenth variation of the game – it’s the first official follow-up to the smash hit original, which was launched in 2009. The original Angry Birds has now been downloaded over 3 billion times and spawned numerous spin-offs and mashups, so it’s only right to be excited about what Angry Birds 2 has in store. Fairphone 2, the first modular smartphone, is now available for pre-order

Fairphone 2, the modular smartphone designed to outlast other phones, is now available for pre-order. The company is shooting for 15,000 pre-orders and expects to begin delivering them in November of this year. It’ll cost you €525 and Fairphone says it’ll publish details on exactly where that money goes in a few weeks. Unfortunately the device won’t be available for purchase outside of Europe during 2015 and the company hasn’t confirmed when it’ll be available elsewhere.
