"The recent Health Care Reform law passed in the United States is so full of false promises and scary possibilities, it's not unlike a creepy guy telling kids in the playground that he has lots of delicious candy for them in his van." ~ Yasha Harari

Reddit
Reddit has been through a lot lately, but that doesn’t mean you should steer clear of one of the most populous forums on the Web. It’s home to countless vibrant communities sharing ideas and advice on how to get the most out of life. I’ve rounded up some of the most helpful subreddits I’ve come across during my time on the site. /r/explainlikeimfive Need a simple answer to your complicated question? Ask it here and let the 5.7 million-member community break it down in layman-friendly terms. Hop in here to discover why human babies evolved to be so loud and demanding, what the Trans-Pacific Partnership is…

In 2013, Edward Snowden unleashed an earthquake, of which aftershocks are still being felt. The revelation that spy agencies in the US, UK, Canada and Australia were working to undermine online encryption and had built backdoors in to the internet services we all use was shocking. Until Snowden, most of us assumed our private online activity was private. But the disclosures – like that in which Skype had allowed collection of users’ video calls, for example – have shaken everyone’s faith in online anonymity. We used to assume Terms & Conditions had our backs, that the legalese we have little…

While London is undoubtedly the center of gravity in the British startup and venture ecosystem, there’s plenty of no less fascinating things going on outside the M25 motorway. A good example would be the burgeoning ecosystem in Bristol and Bath, which form part of the so-called Silicon Gorge in the south west of England. The place of birth of a number of well-known startups and tech companies, this region shows that sustainable businesses can be built by passionate people even with limited access to VC money and acceleration programmes. Bristol and Bath, located in 10 minutes’ train ride from each other, are…

Google Play Books
Google has updated its Play Books app for Android with some neat changes to the interface as well as a new way to get suggestions for what to read next. The revamped Read Now screen displays your recently read books in a horizontal carousel, along with progress bars to indicate how much you’ve read. You’ll also see Buy buttons beneath sample titles that are stored on your device. The new Read Now screen If you scroll past the recommendations to the bottom of this screen, you’ll notice a new section asking if you’d like to tell Google what kinds of…
