Nokia is making an advanced VR camera for filmmakers

Ozo 2 Nokia
Just because Nokia stopped making phones, doesn’t mean it hasn’t been busy. First apps and tablets, and now it’s getting into the VR game with a new 360-degree camera called Ozo. The device mixes footage and audio from eight image sensors and an equal amount of microphones. As the camera uses a global shutter for each sensor, the distortion seen during quick motion in many modern cameras (which use rolling shutters) should be nonexistent. The camera’s software allows you to preview 3D footage in real-time, a big step forward compared to the time consuming stitching process normally needed for this…

yahoo livetext
Earlier this month, Yahoo quietly launched its video messaging app Livetext in Hong Kong and Taiwan. In a press event today, the company unveiled the app for download in the US, Canada, Germany and the UK. Livetext is Yahoo’s attempt at reviving its Messenger app, this time with a focus around livestream video – so much so that not even sound is included in the clips. It’s Yahoo’s play on audioless GIFs that are often used to react to things on the Web. Yahoo even did a market research with teens to ask them for an experience they’re missing from other messaging…

Why infographics are the secret to super SEO

seo
As founders, we are conceptualizers, thinkers, leaders, developers and most of all, we are change agents. We obviously oversee the most serious issues in business; do we really have to get worked up with all those SEO tips and tweaks we hear all the time? Definitely not. Our SEO guy should take care of those. But if anything, startup founders need to pay attention to one piece of jargon in SEO: inbound links. “…if you do enough excellent, interesting, useful, funny, compelling stuff, usually your reputation, or your links, however you want to think of it, takes care of itself.”…

Today in scary exploits: TrackingPoint sniper rifles – which run Linux and Android and have WiFi connections – can be remotely hacked. Who could have predicted that?* Hackers can then either disable the rifle or choose a new target. The only response to that news is:  o_0 Yep! Someone made a rifle that can be remotely hacked. At the forthcoming Black Hat hacking conference, Runa Sandvik and her husband Michael Auger plan to present the results of a year’s work on exploiting two of the $13,000 self-aiming rifles. The pair have discovered how to brick the rifle, making its computer-targeting unusable, as well as getting root…

Microsoft’s new Edge browser can win back bitter Web developers

Microsoft’s new browser that comes with Windows 10 is great on the surface. It’s fast, stable and has a slick new look. Web developers, however, don’t care about that. They care if Microsoft’s new browser will break their websites or not with its new rendering engine. Over the last ten years the Web has been utterly transformed. Internet Explorer, once dominant, has been decimated by Google’s faster and more reliable Chrome browser. Graph via Gravoc With Edge, Microsoft wants to win developers back and has pulled out the stops to do it. To start from a fresh slate, Microsoft created a fork of…
