TNW’s Handwriting Challenge: Has typing made your penmanship worse?

handwriting vs typing
When our sole method of communication is typing on keyboards, it’s rare to see anyone’s penmanship these days. I don’t know about you, but I love looking at different people’s handwriting. Not necessarily for the purpose of analyzing it for personality traits (though many are into that too), but because they’re simply fascinating, unique and often interesting and eccentric. And really, when was the last time you picked up a pen to write a full sentence? Has typing made your handwriting worse? We wanted to know all of this, and asked TNW’s editorial staff to send in their chicken scratches. We assigned each…

This is what The Grid’s ‘AI’ website builder looks like

keychain
You might have heard about The Grid — it’s been endlessly running banner advertising on every tech website out there for the last few months. What you might not know is what it actually is. On first look at its landing page, I thought it wasn’t real. The company claims it uses “artificial intelligence” to build better websites and calls it your “personal AI website developer.” After seeing that non-stop advertising for The Grid around the Web and coming across its website repeatedly, I decided to get in touch with the team and find out what they were actually building. I guess its advertising worked.…

Amazon releases its own exclusive album full of indie artists

Amazon Acoustics
Amazon today announced it is releasing an album for its Prime Music service called Amazon Acoustics. Rather than recording of the sounds of the South American rainforest however, Amazon has collected 30 acoustic tracks created by both established and up-and-coming artists. It’s a mix of original music, re-recordings and covers. There are new tracks from indie bands like Hey Marseilles and Freedom fry, covers of classics like OutKast’s ‘Hey Ya!’ or Cyndi Laupers ‘True Colors,’ as well as sessions where bands trim down their own music. The full list of songs is available here. It looks like Amazon is trying…

Balancing the books can be the stuff of nightmares when a) numbers aren’t your thing, and b) you’re doing it all manually. There’s nothing worse than trying to find that rogue payment, missing receipt, or misplaced expense report to get the numbers to add up. Fortunately, we’re living in the 21st century, and while you may still be using Excel or Google Sheets to manage your company’s finances, technology stands firmly on the accountant’s side. Automation, ease of use, and, most importantly, application integration has turned the headache of accounting into a (potentially) stress-free endeavour for your company. If you’re…

This Lego genius built an exoskeleton to remotely control his creations

LegoRobotsuit
Danny Benedettelli is a Lego genius – he wrote the book on how to create cool things with Lego Mindstorms (literally) – and has also created an exoskeleton to remotely control the robots he builds. The suit is what he’s sporting in the video above and it is just so cool. He calls the sensor-packed suit ‘Waldo’ and it allows him to make the robot move when he does via a Bluetooth connection. Now that’s a good DIY project for the weekend… ➤ Danny’s Lab [via Boing Boing | Make ] Read next: Lego Dimensions offers up a powerful ‘Portal’ hit
