WhatsApp’s chat manipulation exploit remains unresolved even after a year

Vulnerabilities uncovered in WhatsApp — the messaging app used by about 1.5 billion users across the world — can allow bad actors to exploit the platform to manipulate or spoof chat messages. The flaws would make it possible to “intercept and manipulate messages sent in both private and group conversations, giving attackers the power to create and spread misinformation from what appear to be trusted sources,” the researchers noted. Details of the vulnerabilities were disclosed by Israeli cybersecurity firm Checkpoint Research at Black Hat 2019 security conference in Las Vegas on August 7. Google Maps’ AR navigation feature is rolling out to more phones

Back in February, Google announced that it’s testing an augmented reality (AR) feature in its Maps app for a limited number of users. Now, the search giant said today it’s rolling out this function, officially called Live View, to more phones, and shifting the feature to beta status from alpha. Web advertising 5 times more profitable than crypto-jacking, research says

When cryptocurrencies were soaring in value in late 2017 to early 2018, crypto-jacking was all the rage with opportunistic hackers. Thankfully, it’s not been quite as popular in recent times, and recent findings might make it even less so. New academic research, spotted by ZDnet, has found that crypto-jacking is way less efficient at generating website revenue when compared to traditional web-based advertising. The researchers say a website that includes three adverts can make five and a half times more money than a website that uses crypto-jacking to generate income.
