Google announced today that you can use the fingerprint sensor to sign in to some of its services when you’re using Chrome for Android. The company said this functionality is available for all Pixel users today, and will be rolling out to all using Android 7 or above in coming days. At the moment, you can go to passwords.google.com and test out this feature to view and edit your passwords. The company said it’ll soon enable more Google and Google cloud services that allow this authentication method. The search giant said this feature is built by using FIDO2 standards, W3C WebAuthn, and FIDO CTAP. That makes…

The Trump administration drafted an executive order to censor the internet

CNN has obtained a draft of an executive order that could potentially censor huge portions of the internet. In an attempt to stop a perceived “bias” against conservatives, Trump’s plan attempts to strip certain protections from companies like Facebook and Twitter, particularly those protected under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (CDA). Although it’s still in its early stages, and subject to change, the details it contains are a paradox that involve fighting censorship with more censorship. Part of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, the CDA sought to regulate pornographic material on the internet. Section 230, also known as Title…

How scientists use household bleach and quantum physics to hunt down cancer

Aug12

Posted In: Around the Web

A team of scientists from MIT and Rice University recently discovered a new method for creating qubits that could revolutionize both quantum computing and cancer research – and all it takes is some household bleach and a UV light. Qubits are the basic units of information used in quantum computing. Typically, when scientists create them they go through a complex process involving lasers or shearing single photons off of light using complex, difficult-to-work-with reactants that produce unwanted side-effects. These time consuming methods often require trial-and-error and seldom produce perfect results. The method created by the MIT/Rice team, however, is quick,…
