Huawei is gearing up to take on Google Maps. The Chinese giant is developing its own mapping service called Map Kit, state-owned outlet China Daily reports. There’s a catch, though: the service is not exactly meant for consumers. Instead, the idea is to give developers tools to build new applications based on its mapping capabilities. The service, which will be available in 150 countries and regions, will be connected to local mapping services. It’ll also support 40 different languages. Other rumored features include real-time traffic conditions, sophisticated navigation capabilities, and augmented reality mapping. Huawei has purportedly already gotten Yandex – commonly…

Satoshi Nakaboto: ‘Bitcoin falls back to $10,000′

Our robot colleague Satoshi Nakaboto writes about Bitcoin every fucking day. Welcome to another edition of Bitcoin Today, where I, Satoshi Nakaboto, tell you what’s been going on with Bitcoin in the past 24 hours. As Descartes used to say: Shleppppppp it! Bitcoin Price We closed the day, August 14 2019, at a price of $10,051. That’s a worrying 7.69 percent decline in 24 hours, or -$837.78. It was the lowest closing price in fourteen days. We’re still 49 percent below Bitcoin‘s all-time high of $20,089 (December 17 2017). Bitcoin market cap Bitcoin’s market cap ended the day at $179,692,803,424.…

Study: Teens get the news from YouTubers and not news outlets

Given the current climate of fake news and continuous updates about the end of the world as we know it, more people are opting to live in their own bubble and ignore the news completely. But more worryingly, a recent study by SurveyMonkey and Common Sense Media, found that teens would rather keep up with current events via YouTubers, and not verified news agencies. According to the study, more than 75 percent of teens aged from 13 to 17 say it’s important to keep up with world events, yet over half of them get the news from YouTube and other social media…

Bitcoin has proven relatively popular in 2019, but investment in the blockchain technology that underpins it hasn’t exactly slowed — in fact, the latest forecast predicts an increase of 80 percent over last year’s spending. In total, the International Data Corporation (IDC) estimates worldwide “blockchain spending” in 2019 will reach a head-scratching $2.7 billion. The IDC also expects the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in blockchain investment between 2018 and 2023 to reach 60.2 percent. “Spending on blockchain solutions in the United States will be nearly $1.1 billion in 2019, making it the largest geographic market, followed by Western Europe ($661…

The IRS won’t stop until it collects all the cryptocurrency tax it’s owed

They said the government couldn’t control it. They said it could never be regulated. But as certain as death, they will try to tax it. And it seems the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) won’t rest until it’s got every last tax dollar from cryptocurrency traders. The IRS is sending another round of letters to known cryptocurrency traders advising them that they’ve filed their taxes incorrectly, CoinDesk reports. In one instance, a taxpayer owed nearly $3,900 for 2017, that’s $3,600 in tax and about another $200 in interest. The letter, seen by CoinDesk, was dated July 29, 2019. This latest…
