Apple today announced a new shift in company policy that prioritizes user privacy — at least with regards to Siri audio recordings. Now the company promises only in-house employees will listen to the recordings it has of you, and only if you consent. Like every company with a voice assistant, Apple was called out for saving recordings and allowing workers to listen to them. It did this for the same purpose everyone did — namely, to improve the quality of the assistant’s responses. But it nonetheless creeped people out, especially since, according to The Guardian‘s report, the recordings included, “countless instances…

If there were a color for painting a black hole, it’d probably be Vantablack. One of the darkest materials known to man, Vantablack uses carbon nanotubes to absorb up to 99.96 percent of visible light. The effect is strong enough to make 3D objects look as flat as Mr. Game & Watch. So you can imagine a car painted in Vantablack would be awesome. That’s precisely what BMW did to promote its latest X6, partnering with Vantablack’s creators at Surrey NanoSystems. It’s a vehicle that looks as black when surrounded by ambient light as it does with the lights off. I…

Insta360 today launched its GO camera, a wearable shooter that’s about as big as your thumb. I’ve had my mitts on one for a couple of weeks and I’m simply twitterpated with its clever engineering and thoughtful trough of accessories. The GO’s meant to be worn or stuck somewhere. Its back is magnetic so it’ll stick to metal surfaces, it also comes with a sticky mount, magnetic tether, magnetic tripod mount, and a charging case that holds about two and a half full charges. Specifications: Aperture: F2.1 Video resolution: Standard: 2720×2720@25fps（Captured）/1080@25fps (Exported via app) Interval shooting resolution: 2720×2720@25fps（Captured）/1080@25fps (Exported via…

Cambridge Audio’s Alva TT is the fancypants Bluetooth turntable I didn’t know I wanted

To high-end audio enthusiast, the idea of a Bluetooth turntable seems almost oxymoronic. Part of the core appeal of a turntable is that it’s pretty much the only way to listen to music through a completely analog signal chain (ignoring the fact most modern pressings are mixed digitally). Introducing the digital compression of Bluetooth to that chain just seems…. wrong. But when Cambridge Audio, a British company with a storied hi-fi history, decides to make a Bluetooth turntable, I pay attention – even if that turntable costs $1,700. A disclaimer: I’m not one of those audiophiles who think “vinyl is analog,…

For those of us who miss the work of defunct studio Telltale Games, the news that it’s apparently being resurrected will be welcome. Except this is a completely new company run by two new people who haven’t had a hand in any of the previous Telltale endeavors. So you know… don’t get excited yet. A company called LCG Entertainment bought the rights to Telltale’s back catalog and some of its licenses, according to a report from Polygon. The licenses include The Wolf Among Us and the Batman series, though not the likes of Walking Dead or Stranger Things. The state of other licenses is unclear. LCG is…
