Facebook has admitted to a design flaw in Messenger Kids app that allowed young users on the platform to participate in group chats with adults, without their parents’ permission. The acknowledgement comes weeks after US Democratic senators Edward Markey and Richard Blumenthal urged the social media giant to prioritize children’s privacy and safety online. “We are in regular contact with the FTC on many issues and products, including Messenger Kids,” Facebook Vice President Kevin Martin wrote in a response to the lawmakers, describing the flaw as a “technical error.” Messenger Kids is billed as a safe haven for kids 13…

Ex-Amazon employee who hacked Capital One bank used its servers to mine cryptocurrency

The former Amazon Web Services employee thought to be behind the data breach of Capital One bank earlier this year appears to have also used the infiltrated cloud servers to surreptitiously mine cryptocurrency. According to court documents, Paige Thompson was indicted yesterday after hacking Capital One bank and 30 other entities, and has been charged with wire fraud, and computer fraud and abuse. Thompson allegedly created a software program to scan for and identify cloud customers that had incorrectly configured their firewalls, and in doing so, had left their systems exposed to external attacks. It appears that Thompson was able…

Apple might finally be able to sell iPhones directly to customers in India from its own online store.. Yesterday, the government said it’s relaxing local sourcing norms for foreign direct investment (FDI) for single-brand retail, opening the door for Apple store like outlets.  That means the companies aren’t obliged to follow the rule that allowed brands to sell via their owns stores only if they source 30 percent of their hardware components locally. According to new rules, all procurements made from India by a single-brand retail company for its own production will count towards local sourcing, even if the goods are exported.…

Welcome to CHEAP, our series about things that are good, but most of all, cheap. CHEAP! Games controllers are rarely cheap. Ditto when they come with added accessories  and that’s why this deal is such an attractive bargain. Right now, Amazon is flogging an Xbox One controller for just £39.99 on their UK site. Plus, it comes bundled with a USB dongle for the PC purists among us. I don’t really need to sell this much. If you’ve got an Xbox, you know what the controller is like. That said, I will say this is an excellent deal, and one worth…
