Over half a million active GPS trackers have ‘123456’ as default password

Researchers have found serious security vulnerabilities in over 600,000 GPS trackers available for sale on Amazon and other online retail merchants that may have exposed user data, including the exact real-time GPS coordinates. Czech cybersecurity firm Avast, which disclosed the vulnerabilities, said it informed the manufacturer about the flaws on June 24, 2019, but added they never got a response to their repeated messages. The trackers — 31 models in all that are made by Chinese IoT manufacturer Shenzhen i365 Tech — allowed users to keep tabs on their childrens’ whereabouts through a companion app and a web portal, while…

After establishing a strong base with its ecommerce and streaming content business in India, Amazon is reportedly set to unveil its food delivery service in the country next month. According to a report by Mint, the company will start the service under its Prime Now banner first in Bengaluru, and then in Mumbai and New Delhi. The report notes that Amazon will charge only fourth of the commission from the restaurant as compared to other food delivery competitors such as Zomato and Swiggy. The ecommerce giant is already signing up restaurants at a rate of five to six percent commission, as compared to…

Huawei’s Freebuds 3 pack active noise cancellation and a fancy new audio chip

Huawei today announced the latest update to its truly wireless earbuds game. The Huawei Freebuds 3 are the company’s latest salvo in an already crowded marketplace. It hopes to distinguish itself from its rivals with reduced call latency, as well as improved charging performance, and the introduction of active noise cancellation (ANC). The ANC aspect is arguably the most interesting. Huawei says the Freebuds 3 can remove around 15 decibels of external noise. While that doesn’t sound like much, bear in mind that these aren’t over-ear or in-ear headphones, and therefore can’t rely on the sound isolation effects garnered by…

Huawei’s Kirin 990 5G chipset promises improved data, battery, and camera performance

As Android manufacturers go, Huawei is a bit of an oddity as it produces its own silicon, rather than farming it out to a third-party like Qualcomm or MediaTek. Their latest is the octa-core Kirin 990 5G, which will power the company’s upcoming handsets. At a briefing during Berlin’s IFA tech conference, TNW got a closer look at Huawei’s latest platform, which represents a significant step-change over the previous version. Battery life, as well as data, video, and camera performance all see major upgrades. Perhaps the most important thing to note about the Kirin 990 5G chipset is that it…

Our robot colleague Satoshi Nakaboto writes about Bitcoin every fucking day. Welcome to another edition of Bitcoin Today, where I, Satoshi Nakaboto, tell you what’s been going on with Bitcoin in the past 24 hours. As Marx used to say: The long and winding road awaits! Bitcoin Price We closed the day, September 5 2019, at a price of $10,575. That’s a minor 0.11 percent decline in 24 hours, or -$12.64. It was the lowest closing price in two days. We’re still 47 percent below Bitcoin‘s all-time high of $20,089 (December 17 2017). Bitcoin market cap Bitcoin’s market cap ended…
