Review: The $990 Unagi e-scooter is sleek, powerful, and light

E-scooters have a bit of a bad rep. In some cities, you’re likely to hear grumbling over rental scooters strewn about streets like trash or discarded in rivers. These shared scooters are seen as a dorkier, less safe alternative to bicycles that aren’t actually all that good for the environment. I’m grateful to the tech gods that dockless e-scooters have not been allowed in NYC. It’s a shame, because personal scooters are a different story. They allow you to get from A to B in a compact package. They’re easy to use and can save you significant money on cabs…

Welcome to TNW Basics, a collection of tips, guides, and advice on how to easily get the most out of your gadgets, apps, and other stuff. Anyone can produce and record music. Perhaps you and a buddy from work have been jamming in the break room and you want to record it, or maybe you just want to sit under a tree in the quad with headphones on and make beats during your free period. The Offspring becomes latest band to play a concert inside a video game

Punk band The Offspring are going to be performing a gig in … a mobile game? Yep, they join the ranks of the growing number of performers choosing to perform in games. As for the venue, Offspring will be performing inside World of Tanks. That’s right, the free-to-play mobile World War 2 war machine game. It wouldn’t be my game of choice were I a punk band — but come to think of it, I can’t come up with a hypothetical alternative, so who am I to judge? I have the feeling the hundreds of millions in revenue WoT rakes in on…

Facebook identifies secret campaign to influence voters in Iraq and Ukraine

Sep17
by Sindy Cator on September 17, 2019 at 4:14 pm
Posted In: Around the Web

Earlier today, Facebook announced it had terminated multiple accounts, pages, and groups belonging to two campaigns targeting voters in Iraq and Ukraine. The move is part of the social giant’s crackdown on “inauthentic behavior.” In Iraq, Facebook removed 76 accounts, seven Instagram accounts, 120 pages, and a smaller number of groups and events. Analysis of the posts from the suspended profiles shows a focus predominantly on social issues, as well as the complex relationship between Iran and Iraq. Throughout the content there’s a theme of Saddam-era nostalgia, with one post describing a photo of the former dictator as evidence of…

This AI researcher is fighting unsolicited dick pics… with more dicks

Sep17

For the ongoing series, Code Word, we’re exploring if — and how — technology can protect individuals against sexual assault and harassment, and how it can help and support survivors. The internet is great, but for women in particular, that’s not always the case. Because of the wonderful world wide web, there’s a greater risk of non-consensual interactions and  new opportunities for perpetrators to target and abuse their victims — whether it’s an abusive message waiting in your inbox or an unsolicited cyber-flash from a complete stranger, unsolicited dick pics have become an all too common form of sexual harassment.…
