Welcome to CHEAP, our series about things that are good, but most of all, cheap. CHEAP! Apple released the new crop of MacBook Air last year after a long wait. But let’s face it, the new models are still a bit pricy and a lot of them have the dreaded keyboard issue. So, what do you do if you want a reliable Apple laptop? Well, you turn towards the evergreen 2017 MacBook Air, which is on sale for just $876, down from $1,199. The deal also gets you a wireless mouse, a deflector case, and a microfiber cleaning cloth.  I’ve been…

I tried getting chill and swole (chwole?) with CBD-infused protein bars

Sep25

CBD is a weird one. On one hand, it has acolytes everywhere claiming it to be a miraculous wonder-drug. But on the other? There’s little proper medical science backing up these declarations. So, we knew what we had to do: test out CBD-infused protein bars to see if we could both experience the impact of the chemical and, simultaneously, get swole as a motherfucker. It’s called M-Journal, and it works in a pretty simple manner: you insert a URL to a Wikipedia article of your choice, and the website does the “academic” work. Think of it as a shortcut to…

Court rules Bitfinex’ info on $850M Tether black hole unnecessary – for now

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex can now stop sharing documents about its use of Tether with the New York Attorney General (NYSAG) after winning a motion in the appellate division of the New York Supreme Court over an alleged $850 million cover-up. Tether is a controversial ‘stablecoin’ issued by Tether Limited, which formerly claimed each token was backed by one US dollar. However, as previously reported by Hard Fork, an affidavit submitted in May showed that it is only 74 percent backed by cash and equivalents. The case first exploded in early April after NYSAG Letitia James began to build a case to sue Bitfinex…
