Capturing carbon dioxide from smokestacks, and even removing it directly from air, might be the only way to avert the most catastrophic effects of climate change. Engineers at MIT have now created a device to trap carbon dioxide that is much less energy-intensive and costly than today’s technologies. The device, reported in the journal Energy and Environmental Science, works a lot like a battery. It absorbs carbon dioxide from air passing over its electrodes. Biosensor-equipped glasses could monitor diabetes through tears

Brazilian and US scientists have developed a glasses-based biosensor capable of measuring blood glucose levels through a person’s tears, offering a less invasive test for diabetics. Glucose levels need to be frequently monitored in people with diabetes, a disease that affects 62 million people in the Americas and 380 million worldwide. Cryptocurrency exchange IDAX’s CEO reportedly missing with the company’s cold wallet

A relatively small cryptocurrency exchange has halted deposit and withdrawal services after its CEO has reportedly gone missing. The IDAX exchange posted an announcement earlier today saying it had halted some operations after its staff were unable to make contact with the global CEO. The CEO is said to have taken access to the company’s cold wallets with them. At this point, it’s not known why the CEO has supposedly vanished. According to CoinMarketCap, IDAX serviced some $500 million worth of Bitcoin trades over the past 24 hours — compared to top ranking exchange BitMEX, which serviced over $2 billion.…

HSBC will reportedly use blockchain to move $20B in digital assets

Global bank HSBC is planning to track $20 billion worth of digital assets on a blockchain-based custody platform by March next year. According to Reuters, the platform, known as Digital Vault, will allow investors to get real-time access to records of securities purchased in private markets. HSBC’s platform will digitize paper records and leverage blockchain tech in a bid to maximize efficiency, reducing the time it takes for investors to make checks or queries on their holdings.
