The Federal Communications Commission today announced a new initiative designed to help mitigate one possible effect of the coronavirus: namely, the ability of citizens to use their internet to work from home during the outbreak. The “Keep Americans Connected” pledge would help mitigate the effects of the massive “stay at home” social movement by helping ensure users won’t lose access to one of their most necessary functions — for now, anyway. FCC Chairman @AjitPaiFCC today launched the Keep Americans Connected pledge in order to ensure that Americans do not lose their broadband or telephone connectivity as a result of these…

Apple will reportedly release MacBooks with new and improved keyboards soon

Back in November, we heard rumblings Apple was planning on releasing a 13 or 14 inch MacBook Pro with the new scissor keyboard introduced on the 16-inch model. Today Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reaffirmed this rumor, claiming that the new keyboard would arrive on MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models in Q2 of 2020, as reported by MacRumors. The existing models are using the yucky butterfly switches Apple introduced with the 2015 MacBook, which had a propensity to get gunk stuck under the keys (and in this writer’s opinion, felt positively nasty to type on). It got so bad that…

Military research agency DARPA wants video game developers to help it develop AI fighter jets. The Pentagon’s so-called “mad science” wing is seeking their support for its Air Combat Evolution (ACE) program. ACE aims to build the trust of fighter pilots in automated combat by testing algorithms in close-range aerial battles — better known as dogfights. But before they’re dodging enemy jets for real, the algorithms need to be trialed in simulations. Read: Pentagon unveils toothless ethical principles for using AI in war Lieutenant Colonel Dan Javorsek, who also goes by the cuddly nom de guerre of “Animal,” envisions the…
