TNW2018 was off the (block)chain: Cats, free money, and more

Apparently, blockchain is kind of a big deal. Who knew? We did, and that’s why we had our cryptocurrency-dedicated Hard Fork track at TNW Conference. Blockchain experts shared their visions of the future, their advice for beginners, and even gave away free money. In case you missed it, here’s a recap: Yoni Assia, Co-founder and CEO of eToro Yoni began by praising the invention of electricity, without which we wouldn’t have air conditioning — “which we desperately need in here,” he said. That’s our bad, Yoni. He continued by saying that Bitcoin is undoubtably the next big invention we’ll be…

Earlier this week, Microsoft announced the acquisition of GitHub for $7.5 billion, and the installation of Xamarin co-founder Nat Friedman as the social coding platform’s new CEO. It goes without saying that this wasn’t entirely welcomed by the community, particularly by those who remember Microsoft’s antitrust days of the 1990’s. One specific area of concern is what Microsft would do with GitHub’s beloved Atom text editor. Facebook! Stop sending us lobbyists! demands European Parliament

Jun08

The European Parliament is sick and tired of Facebook refusing to properly answer its questions. After the fiasco of the Mark Zuckerberg show, a further two hearings are planned for June 25 in Brussels and July 2 in Strasbourg. In a letter to Zuckerberg, seen by The Next Web, civil liberties committee chairman Claude Moraes says: “I would like to stress it is essential for Facebook’s credibility to show its…

When Bitcoin Cash (BCH) – a hard fork of the world’s apex cryptocurrency Bitcoin (BTC) – first took off last August, it promised to solve BTC’s soaring transaction fees and make cryptocurrencies a viable option for everyday transfers once more. But it appears hardly anyone is using it for its so-intended purpose. A new study by blockchain intelligence firm Chainanalysis suggests that most cryptocurrency enthusiasts still use BCH for investment purposes a lot more regularly than for transactions. Indeed, the amount of BCH held in wallets is 10 times higher than the amount of BCH used in transactions. In comparison,…
