Of course there’s a blockchain-based religion

Humans have long sought answers to the fundamental questions of our existence. How did we get here? What is our purpose? Should I buy the dip? For some, the answers lie in churches full of sacred texts. But others place their faith in the house that Satoshi built, and on the blockchain. Matt Liston, former CEO of cryptocurrency company Augur, recently collaborated with artist Avery Singer to found a blockchain-based religion called 0xΩ, pronounced “Zero Ex Omega”. @0xOmega is:1. A consensus network based structure for religious belief and ritual2. A synergistic belief set using consensus processes to form a collective…

Review: Anker’s new noise cancelling cans offer solid performance for a reasonable price

Through its Soundcore sub-brand, Anker is attempting to position itself as a medium-range audio manufacturer. The latest in this effort is the Soundcore Space NC — a pair of noise-cancelling bluetooth headphones that are now available in the US, retailing at $99. These are the first over-ear headphones from Anker with active noise-cancelling technology. They’re also a sign that the company isn’t content to solely compete at the lower-end of the audio sphere, and plans to take aim at bigger household names: like Plantronics, Sennheiser, and Sony. So, how do they stack up? TNW has been testing the Soundcore Space…

Microsoft brings SwiftKey to Windows, hinting at dual-screen laptops

When Microsoft bought popular keyboard app SwiftKey, it seemed likely some of the keyboard’s features would make their way to Windows desktops. Now nearly two years later, we’re finally seeing the fruits of the purchase. What’s new? The latest Windows Insider Build includes ‘SwiftKey intelligence’ for the touchscreen keyboard. Rather than having a keyboard with rudimentary autocorrect, the new keyboard will learn your writing style for more accurate corrections and predictions – even the types of emoji you use. It currently works in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Russian. Moreover, it now lets you swipe to type – which Microsoft…

Apple Maps outage gave people an excuse to stop using Apple Maps

Jun15

Early today, Apple Maps went down for everyone. The outages lasted for a few hours, meaning there were probably at least few people lost out there. For those poor souls, we ask one question: why on earth are you still using Apple Maps? No really, I’m genuinely curious. Google Maps is free, more detailed, and you don’t even have to be logged into a Google account to use it. It’ll also tell you how to find a good burger joint in any given city — I don’t understand what more you could ever want. Waze is also available. The outage was…

Two very old games from Nintendo’s arcade days are getting a surprise re-release on the eShop. According to Nintendo of America, it’s the first time either one has been released in its original arcade form for consoles. The details: Revealed yesterday during the final Treehouse Live of E3, both games are difficult to find in their original forms. In gamer years, these two are like the Dead Sea Scrolls. The first is Donkey Kong, the 1981 arcade game, which is seeing its first non-truncated release in the West. #ArcadeArchives Donkey Kong is the first-ever release of the complete arcade version outside…
