#00000000000000000021e800c1e8df51b22c1588e5a624bea17e9faa34b2dc4a You know how geeky the cryptocurrency community is, when this is the trending hashtag on Twitter. This long sequence is a ‘block hash’ — a cryptographic number that is produced when new transactions are validated and written on the Bitcoin blockchain. This particular hash belongs to block number 528249 created on Tuesday. Usually, no one is excited about block hashes — but there was something very peculiar about the sequence that threw the whole community into a frenzy. This was the presence of “21e8” in the middle of the string after the zeros end. “E8 Theory” is a theory in…

Like it or not (and I don’t), Blockchain is the current hottest tech buzzword. Hundreds of products are being built around distributed ledgers, in fields as diverse as healthcare, finance, and even online gaming. To ensure that more developers can jump on this bandwagon, learning platform Udacity has launched a blockchain nanodegree program, which promises to teach coders everything they need to know to work in this growing niche. The course is spread over two three-month terms, and is focused on practical experience. According to Udacity, the course sees students build their own blockchain, learn about smart contracts using Solidity,…

Most people know Chinese gadget maker Xiaomi for its Android phones and accessories – but in its home country, it offers a vast array of products ranging from robot vacuum cleaners to desk lamps to travel pillows. It even crowdfunds new stuff in China, and its latest offering is this compact – and ridiculously cheap – electric bike. The $261 Himo bicycle can cover 50 kilometers on a single charge, by running a 250W brushless DC motor in power-assisted mode. Its 16.7 kg aluminium alloy body is small enough to be tucked away under your desk when you reach the…

Posted In: Around the Web, cryptocurrency, Finance

In 2017, Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) netted a collective $5.6 billion, becoming one of the hottest tech trends of the year. Also referred to as token sale, ICO is a method for companies to raise funds by selling their own proprietary cryptocurrencies on the blockchain. In many cases, blockchain startups managed to raise millions of dollars by introducing nothing more than a conceptual whitepaper, a flashy website, a promo video and a team of veteran engineers. However, this wasn’t without troubles and controversies, especially as the crypto industry is still highly unregulated. A considerable number of blockchain projects died and…
