When you think about Japan, do you picture their auto and electronics industries? If so, you’re probably not alone, as these industries have been the backbone of Japan’s economy for many decades. That being said, were you aware that Japan is also known for its cultural exports? Japan has a long track record of creating meaningful and diverse cultural ideas and dialogues—both within the country and across the globe. Japanese media is a balancing act of bizarre and familiar themes that intrigues people from all walks of life.   Most recently, Japan has set a project, Cool Japan, in motion.…

It sure looks like Mt. Gox will give back $1.3M worth of Bitcoin to its users – but there’s a catch

Creditors of the now disbanded Mt. Gox cryptocurrency exchange have made another step towards reclaiming their lost Bitcoin, following updates to a court ruling issued in June, first spotted by Coindesk. Back in November 2017, a group of Mt. Gox creditors, who were implicated by the theft of over 744,000 Bitcoin and the exchange’s subsequent bankruptcy rallied together, and started a petition to reclaim their lost funds. Over the following months this gained traction, and in June of this year a further court session ruled that the compensation claims should be made in BTC and BCH, which at current market…

How am I supposed to test a $2,890 speaker with this shitty playlist?

I recently wrote about the Devialet Gold Phantom, a $2,890, insanely loud bluetooth speaker. When I was sent the device, I was also given a link to a playlist filled with songs to test it with. This, I’m sorry to report, was a terrible mistake. I mean, how could I not review the song selection? They say that writing about music is akin to dancing about architecture, but that’s dumb. You ever played charades? If I put my arms straight above my head and wobble a bit, I can quite clearly illustrate how a skyscraper moves in heavy winds. Before…

Millions of webstores can now accept cryptocurrency through Coinbase

Coinbase announcements are dropping faster than exchange hacks these days. It’s just released a brand-new plugin that makes accepting cryptocurrency way easier for millions of websites. The new plugin, spotted by DailyHodl, enables WooCommerce webstores to accept major cryptocurrencies directly into a user-controlled Coinbase wallet. WooCommerce webstores are powered by WordPress, who claim that 28 percent of the internet’s online stores are using it for their businesses – but it’s likely to be closer to 40 percent.  The plugin is a part of what Coinbase is calling an “open financial system” – a peer-to-peer payment network for cryptocurrencies. Users are only…

Fitbit’s lame period feature proves the need for more women in tech

Aug03

Once again it has being proven that more women are needed in tech after Fitbit’s period tracking feature only allows women to log their menstrual cycle if it lasted for 10 days or fewer. How long does your period last? Five days? A week? Two weeks? A month? It’s a question that doesn’t have a consistent answer month by month. Your cycle can alter depending on your lifestyle and type of contraception. Not to mention the obvious, but every woman’s body is different. Or maybe this isn’t so obvious for the guys behind Fitbit’s latest menstrual tracking feature. Fitbit has been…
