Amazon launches a Hindi site to lure India’s next 100 million online shoppers

With a view to make Amazon the ultimate shopping destination for the next 100 million Indians, the company has launched a Hindi website.  Hindi is one of the two official languages spoken in India. A census report from 2011 suggests that nearly 44 percent of the Indians speak the language. To change the displayed language, you’ll need to head to the top left menu and select your preferred language. Once that’s sorted, you’ll be able to see account details, order information, product description, payments, discounts, and deals in Hindi. In 2017, Amazon rolled out an option to switch to the…

Blockchain doesn’t kill people, but smart contracts can, law professor says

By now, we should be feeling quite familiar with artificial intelligence. Science fiction has shown us what happens when robots are gifted human-like intelligence. Typically, it doesn’t end well, but what about the “intelligence” of automated blockchain networks? Smart contracts, like the ones that power Ethereum’s ecosystem, can be seen as a simple form of machine intelligence, and one academic is convinced we are giving them far too much responsibility. Adam Kolber, a Brooklyn Law School professor, has shared a chilling vision of a not-so-distant future, in which humans live under threat of blockchain-based overlords. He even coined a new term…

Samsung’s making a foldable phone so we can all stop sharing this shitty screengrab

Sep04

Does the header image for this article look familiar? The pixelated mess, which depicts a foldable smartphone – and has been used by us and virtually every other tech outlet on the planet at one point or another – is actually a screengrab from a concept video Samsung showed off at CES 2013. In case you haven’t seen the clip, here it is: It’s been five years, and we still haven’t seen anything like it from the Korean hardware giant – even though it’s filed numerous patents that would hint at a mobile device with a foldable screen. Heck, ZTE…

As Google and Epic Games go to war over Fortnite, players take the hit

On Friday, Google disclosed a serious security flaw in the Android version of Epic Games’ famous online game Fortnite. According to Google, Fortnite’s Android installer had a vulnerability that could allow malicious apps to be installed on devices. Google’s decision to probe Fortnite for Android was aimed at protecting the tens of millions of users that are using the mobile game—at least that’s what Google says. But a look at the weeks-long dispute shows that while the security of gamers hangs in the balance, the priorities of Epic Games and Google lie elsewhere. Epic’s selfish move to circumvent Google’s cash cow Epic…
