Haiku Review: Real Shades’ computer glasses

Welcome to Haiku Review, a feature where we review gear and gadgets using the Japanese poetry form. This time we’re looking at Real Shades’ computer glasses, Screen Shades. Suitable for adults and children, they protect users’ sight spheres with a yellow plastic lens that blocks 65 percent blue light – you know, the stuff that electronics emit that hurts some people’s eyes. Let’s get down and dirty with this haiku then:   They don’t snap – I tried. Headache, but no dry red eyes. Everything’s pee shade.   If you have problems with computer screens and want you see the world in a…

Thailand imposes extra fees on blockchain-powered p2p energy producers

New regulations drafted by Thailand officials demand that electricity producers using blockchain be charged additional fees. Government regulators fear an explosion in independent power generation will lead to a reduction in revenue. Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has demanded the fees be paid as a subsidy for potentially destabilizing effects blockchain technology brings, Nikkei Asian Review reports. “The number of household solar rooftop power generators is increasing rapidly. That’s why the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) needs to develop regulation that is fair for everybody,” declared ERC member Viraphol Jirapraditkul. There is a growing number of Thai companies leveraging distributed ledger technology (DLT)…

Coinbase is adding further support for the pound sterling in an effort to make it easier for British users to trade cryptocurrency in their local currency. In an announcement on its Medium blog, Coinbase revealed that starting from September 7 (9AM BST, to be exact) British users of its Pro trading platform will be able to exchange their pounds for Ethereum (ETH), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH). The popular exchange already offers trading pairs between Bitcoin (BTC) and the pound, but the new additions will give a little more choice to British users. The roll out…

Chrome has a new password manager, but I’m not switching just yet

Google’s Chrome browser turned 10 earlier this week and got a major overhaul to boot. As part of the revamp, it now comes with an updated password manager that can generate passwords on registration forms, and save them so you don’t need to remember a thing. When you’re signing up for a new account on any site and are prompted to enter a password, Chrome will generate one for you; just click the ‘Use suggested password’ that shows up. Generated passwords include a capital case letter, a small case letter, and a number; a symbol is not included unless it is…

YouTube’s Dark theme is rolling out to Android now – here’s how to get it

Sep06
by Sindy Cator on September 6, 2018 at 7:08 am
Posted In: Apps, Around the Web

YouTube’s dark theme had begun rolling out to a few lucky Android users at the end of July, but it seems like it’s finally becoming available more widely with the latest version of the app. Android Police noted that the feature requires version 13.35.51 to work. You can either try updating the app via Google Play, or grab the installer to sideload from APK Mirror (opt for one of the nodpi versions on that page). To turn it on, tap your profile icon at the top right of the screen in the YouTube app, then head to Settings > General,…
