Quotable

"Now that Iceland's volcanic ash has been spewing ash over Europe as long as Noah's flood, and humans have endured this challenge as well or better than in times past, who will author a legend about it for future generations to tell as their biblical testament? Or will it be authored by a billion monkeys on a billion keyboards?" ~ Yasha Harari

Coke’s on the blockchain now

A hardware hacker from Brasil has developed an automated vending machine that delivers Coca-Cola in exchange for Bitcoin. But don’t get your hopes up, it’ll probably be a while before we see these in the wild. The dev used a handful of off-the-shelf materials like a Raspberry Pi, water pump, touch screen, some wood, and of course some programming know-how, to build the machine. Here’s how the Bitcoin-vending machine works: From the video, it appears that the customer scans a QR code which requests a BTC payment, the customer then issues the payment using their wallet, and once the payment…

EOS community in meltdown over allegations of voting corruption

The EOS community is dealing with more bombshell allegations of corruption. Block.one, the software firm behind EOS, has been forced to rebuff claims Chinese cryptocurrency tycoons are working together to keep control of its blockchain. Last week, an anonymous source supposedly leaked an internal document with some pretty damning accusations. It claims that “collusion, mutual voting, and pay-offs” are commonplace amongst EOS block producers, particularly cryptocurrency exchange desk Huobi. Primary allegations are that Huobi and other powerful block producers are mutually voting for each other in order to retain status and secure passive income. Further, it is claimed that specifically…

FBI uses FaceID to unlock a suspect’s iPhone X for the first time

For the first time ever, America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had a suspect to unlock his iPhone X using FaceID. The agency forced Grant Michalski – an Ohio resident who is accused of receiving and possessing child pornography – to unlock his iPhone X with his face on August 10. The FBI had a search warrant which allowed them to make Michalski unlock the phone. After unlocking the phone, FBI’s special agent David Knight discovered conversations on chat messenger Kik about abusing minors. Michalski had previously talked to an undercover officer on the app who posed as a father…

Ethereum ICOs have sold most of their tokens for profit, according to study

The cryptocurrency market has been in decline since January, but it appears blockchain startups are still profiting big. Indeed, new data suggests Ethereum-based initial coin offerings (ICOs) are sitting on $830 million in reserves – that is despite having already sold almost as much ETH as they initially raised. According to data from BitMEX Research, blockchain startups raised a total of $5,463 million worth of Ethereum (approximately 15 million ETH) in ICOs by September 2018. Interestingly, the sum almost matches the total amount of ETH these companies sold during the same period – $5,452 million (or 11.3 million ETH). The…
