Pan-African ecommerce giant Jumia may be about to launch an initial public offering (IPO), if reports are to be believed, valuing the company at around $1 billion USD. According to Reuters, Jumia, which already claims to be Africa’s first “unicorn” based on how much investment it has received, is considering a possible New York listing early next year. It’s all very exciting, but for now let’s get back to news that has actually happened. Like the fact that Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of China’s Alibaba Group, has partnered the Kenyan ministries of tourism and wildlife to deploy its…

In its latest dig at Apple, Samsung went to a Dutch town named Appel to give out free Galaxy S9 units – presumably so it could win over Appel (geddit)? The company gave away phones to 50 out of Appel’s 312 residents, including its biggest Apple enthusiast Gerben van Walt Meijer, Marketing Manager Mobile of Samsung Netherlands, said: With our innovative products and services, we have been off the beaten track for years to make everyday life more fun and easy, With this marketing campaign, we do exactly the same. We are off the beaten track to get our message across. Our goal…

Since people have been getting their hands on the latest iPhones over the past couple of weeks, many people and media outlets have been up in arms over the new devices’ front-facing cameras alleged use of a ‘beautification’ filter that smoothened skin on facial features in selfies. But is that what’s really going on with your photos? Sebastiaan de With, the designer behind the $6 iOS camera app Halide, took to his company’s blog to shed some light on the situation. It’s hard to…
