Amazon is currently running a closed beta for its upcoming game New World, but hasn’t publicly revealed much of what it looks like. Thankfully, one of the participants captured some two hours of footage and shared it on, ahem, PornHub. Don’t worry about firing it up at work and getting kicked out of your office: YouTube channel Less Than Epic has condensed the good bits into a much shorter clip, which you can watch below. As the video describes, New World – which is being developed by Amazon Game Studios’ Orange County team – is a ‘persistent player-run sandbox MMORPG’…

Streaming almost killed piracy, but cyberlockers are changing that

Illegal downloading is on its way out. A new report released by polling firm YouGov has found that only 10 percent of people in the UK now use illegal downloads to access music, down from 18 percent in 2013. The recently released Global online piracy study from the University of Amsterdam argued that entertainment streaming services such as Spotify and Netflix mean that far fewer people are accessing copyright-infringing content. Despite this, pirated songs, films, and TV shows are still widely available online. For example, the Amsterdam study also found that 36 percent of the UK population has accessed illegal content online…

Snapchat turns its attention to India as it battles Instagram to win users

In a bid to continue growing its audience against the odds, Snap is looking beyond the west to India, one of the largest markets for online services right now. To that end, it’s hired its first executive to head up operations in the country. India has nearly half a billion internet users, and hasn’t been a major priority for Snapchat thus far. But it’s grown 75 percent year-on-year, with 55 percent of its audience being women. The arduous task of building Snapchat’s audience in India has fallen to Raheel Khursheed, former head of news partnerships and government for Twitter India.…
