Artist explains quantum physics through poetry

Award-winning poet Amy Catanzano isn’t your average wordsmith. Where other poets dabble in heady descriptions of roiling oceans or soaring eagles, she coaxes the beauty out of quantum theory. In her recent work, “World Lines: A Quantum Supercomputer Poem” she explores the wild and wacky world of quantum theory. Her poem works on both a literary and visual level, as it co-opts its appearance from a diagram representing a 4-qubit quantum computer’s basic function. The poem contains four poetic couplets that twist and intersect. Specific words lie at the center of more than one sentence, forcing the reader to choose…

The former White House economic adviser, Gary Cohn, has just started a new career in blockchain. Announced in a press release on Friday, the ex-Goldman Sachs president is to advise fintech startup Spring Labs, who build blockchain-focused solutions for securing and sharing consumer credit data. Cohn has apparently been interested in blockchain tech since before his time under Trump, commenting he had looked into its potential while serving in the White House. “We all know all the inefficiencies of the existing currency world and blockchain clearly helps to eliminate them at some point in the future,” Cohn told the Financial Times. Spring…

Meetup.com has an unintended cryptocurrency community interest metric

There are a myriad of specialized websites that track the cryptocurrency market. But it appears the social meet up website Meetup.com might give us another metric that hasn’t yet been considered: global cryptocurrency community interest. Meetup.com‘s topics section can give us an unintended overview of global interest in the cryptocurrency market by individual coins. If we take a look below at the global Meetup.com meetups organized for the top seven cryptocurrencies by market cap, it seems that Bitcoin generates the most interest among enthusiasts. According to the data, there are 1.6 million members and 5,570 Bitcoin ($109 billion market cap)…

Someone just found a 10-year-old Bitcoin easter egg

A keen-eyed cryptocurrency enthusiast has just discovered a neat ‘easter egg’ buried deep inside Bitcoin’s code, dating back to the birth of the blockchain. We all know Satoshi Nakamoto referenced the Times headline – Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks – but it appears it actually happened twice. The easter egg is also included as a hexidecimalized version nestled in some code comments. The headline is known to have become the mantra for those creating Bitcoin. Although the newly discovered message is a variant on an easter egg already found, it’s pretty damn cool people are still finding traces of the…

WhatApp’s using street theater to fight fake news in India

After facing backlash about fake news in India, WhatsApp is now trying to spread awareness about misinformation. The company is doing an actual roadshow with skits and songs to convey their message to the locals. The company has teamed up with Reliance Jio – a telecom company and phone maker  – for this initiative. Reliance Jio recently announced that WhatsApp is now available to more than 25 million people using KaiOS-based the JioPhone priced at $20. The roadshow will stop in ten cities, and is aimed at instructing people on how to install WhatsApp on these phones and how to identify…
