Battlefield V puts battle royale on the back burner to focus on story

EA is apparently determined to ensure its latest endeavor, WWII-era shooter Battlefield V, is getting as much space as possible to prove it’s different from its eternal rival Call of Duty. The company has now put the brakes on BFV‘s battle royale in favor of the game‘s single-player story, meaning that (for the time being, anyway) it won’t have to compete for the attention of Fortnite emigres with Black Ops 4‘s Blackout mode. EA and developer DICE today revealed the schedule for BFV‘s post-release content, which includes three separate “chapters” containing new story chapters, maps, and, of course, game modes. Surprisingly, the battle royale mode, called “Firestorm,”…

Facebook fined 0.001% of its 2017 revenue for Cambridge Analytica scandal

One of 2018’s biggest revelations was that Facebook completely failed its users when it allowed Cambridge Analytica to access personal data without their consent. For this massive privacy breach, Facebook has been fined a whopping… £500,000? The measly fine — which amounts to around €565,000 or $645,000 — was issued by the UK Information Commissioner‘s Office today and cements the initial ruling in July, the Guardian reports. It doesn’t take a genius to work out that the fine is pocket change for the social media giant. The company surpassed €35 billion in revenue in 2017, which would make today’s fine…

Report: Central banks split over how to issue digital fiat currencies

Oct25

Posted In: Around the Web, cryptocurrency, Hard Fork

IBM and the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF) have released details of a joint investigation into the effectiveness of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) as a replacement for government-issued fiat. The report surveyed 21 central banks from around the world to determine sentiment toward digital versions of central bank fiat money. While the investigation found it unnecessary for central banks to rush in issuing digital currencies, 38 percent of those surveyed came from institutions that are actively researching and trialling wholesale CBCDs. But even though 76 percent were uncertain as to the effectiveness of digital ledgers (DLTs), most…
