Tanzania is intent on getting into bed with blockchain tech, but wise officials have urged caution before rushing into anything. The Tanzanian government is prepping to conduct thorough research into distributed ledgers (DLT), but the move already has its skeptics, local media reports. At a recent conference, government official Dr. Jim Yonazi urged ICT professionals to help his government determine the power and scope of DLTs and blockchains before it made any big decisions. Ominously, he reportedly then expressed belief that the Tanzanian governments research would help shape the policies, laws, and regulations required to ensure blockchain technology doesn’t threaten…

You own a phone released in the past year? Then it probably doesn’t have a headphone jack – which is bad news if you’re really into hi-res music. Every tested bluetooth codec had problems with the quality of audio streaming, while wired headphones consistently deliver a perfect audio signal. While this sounds all doom-and-gloom on the surface, it doesn’t actually make much difference to the large majority of music listeners. Why? Because although bluetooth codecs have “significant quality issues,”…

The Japanese Financial Services Agency revealed exclusively to Bitcoin News today that, under current law, stablecoins are not cryptocurrencies. Currently there are two pieces of legislation that cryptocurrency companies must satisfy in Japan. The Fund Settlement Law and the Payment Services Act. The Fund Settlement Law defines cryptocurrencies as means of payment, making them exempt from tax. The Payment Services Act state cryptocurrency exchanges must register with the Financial Services Agency (FSA). By the Payment Services Act’s definition, stablecoins are not “virtual currencies.” “In principle, stablecoins pegged by legal currencies do not fall into the category of ‘virtual currencies’ based…
