In October every year, air quality takes a plunge in the Indian capital of New Delhi due to the Diwali festival. At the time of writing this story, PM10 levels in several places in the city have breached the hazardous mark of 700. To fix this problem, a startup situated near Delhi plans to make a huge smog-eating tower (LoTR much?). Kurin Systems, an air purifier startup, wants to build a 40-feet tall purifier, that can provide clean air for nearly 75,000 people in a three-kilometer radius. The company claims it can produce 32 million cubic meters of clean air.…

This gadget helps you sleep at 33,000ft by strapping your head to your seat

It’s really bloody hard to fall asleep at 33,000 ft. A huge part of the problem is that airplane seats aren’t designed with restful snoozes in mind. There’s nothing to prevent your head from lolling towards the seat in front of you, or drifting onto the awaiting shoulder of your neighbor. One interesting solution to this problem is NapUp Fly, which straps your head to the headrest seat, and comes with a built-in eyeshade. There’s also a more expensive model called the NapUp Fly+, which packs a set built-in speakers. Both models come with a hard-shell carry case, which can…

This women-led space program is crowdfunding Kyrgyzstan’s first satellite launch

Nov05
by Sindy Cator on November 5, 2018 at 1:14 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, Space

There are 13 countries in world that have built and launched satellites into space and 72 countries have their own space agencies. But Kyrgyzstan isn’t one of them, yet. In the next two years, Kyrgyzstan could have its first space program, completely powered by a team of a dozen women aged from 17 to 25 years old. The young women behind Kyrgyz Space Program are challenging gender norms by learning engineering and coding to build the country’s first cube satellite (CubeSat) — a miniature design that costs $150,000 to produce. The program is part of the free satellite-building and robotics course…
