Chrome 71 blocks all ads on websites that display too many popups

If you hate random popups or fake system warnings on a website, don’t worry – Chrome’s got you covered. The Google-owned browser’s next version, Chrome 71, will block all ads on a website if it provides an “abusive” experience. Google defines abusive experience as fake messages, phishing, auto-redirect without user action, and unexpected click areas. Website owners can keep a track of reported abusive experiences on their sites from a special report page. Google will give them a 30-day window to take corrective action on flagged experiences. After that, it’ll block all the ads on that particular site. Last year,…

It takes three times more energy to mine Bitcoin than gold

Nov06

According to newly published research, mining cryptocurrency takes nearly twice as much energy than mining gold, platinum, and copper. Bitcoin on its own, needs three times as much energy to mine than compared to gold. Researchers from the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education in Cincinnati tracked the daily energy demand and hashrate of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Monero between 1st January 2016 to 30th June 2018. The researchers then used the average daily market prices of each cryptocurrency – and the respective rewards gained from successfully mining a block – to calculate how much energy it takes to…

Facebook removes 115 suspicious accounts ahead of US mid-term elections

Just before the US mid-term elections, Facebook removed a total of 115 accounts it thought that ‘engaged in coordinated inauthentic behavior’. The company said US Law enforcement contacted it on Sunday to report suspicious online activity, which they believed was possibly linked to foreign entities. Today, the social network removed 30 accounts from Facebook and 85 accounts from Instagram. Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy Nathaniel Gleicher said: We immediately blocked these accounts and are now investigating them in more detail. Almost all the Facebook Pages associated with these accounts appear to be in the French or Russian languages, while the Instagram accounts…

This Day In Deals is our new section where we share a historical fact and the day’s best deal – and try to connect them. The aim? To enrich ourselves financially, and you spiritually. You like trains? Dumb question – of course you do, who doesn’t? Then – and take a deep breath – allow me to introduce you to the Electric Tilt Train. Look at this magnificent beauty: On this day, November 6, back in 1998, the train entered service for the first time in Australia. If that’s not enough to excite you, it also became one of the country’s…

India’s national disaster authority hacked to promote Bitcoin scams on Twitter

Nov06

The cryptocurrency market is going through a rough patch, but this isn’t stopping scammers from duping people out of their funds. Hackers took over the official Twitter account of India’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to promote blatant Bitcoin giveaway scams – a trend that’s been plaguing social media for months now. It’s worth pointing out that unlike other similar incidents, the hackers did not post any malicious links directly from the NDMA’s account; instead, they used the account to respond positively to malicious links posted from other accounts, perhaps in an effort to make them look more legit. “I…
