7 EU countries accuse Google of violating GDPR by tracking users

Consumer agencies in seven EU countries have asked privacy regulators to take action against Google for violating GDPR. The search giant has allegedly tracked the movements of millions of Europeans, Reuters reports. According to the BEUC’s announcement — an umbrella organization representing European consumer groups — the Netherlands, Poland, Czech Republic, Greece, Slovenia, Sweden, and Norway have filed complaints to their national data protection authorities due to new research by Norway‘s consumer group, Forbrukerrådet. The research‘s findings were published today and, according to the BEUC, it proves that Google’s practices are unfair and invasive: The report shows that Google collects…

The most recent collapse of the cryptocurrency market has had an interesting effect on blockchain token developers. In the past month, teams have withdrawn at least 170,000 ETH ($17.7 million) from their cryptocurrency coffers, marking the third biggest withdrawal period of this year. In fact, over 100,000 ($10.4 million) ETH has been transferred from Initial Coin Offering (ICO) treasuries in the last week, reports blockchain research unit Diar. January and September are the only months to see such increased access to “development funds” this year. This comes at a time when trading volumes across the cryptocurrency markets have fallen significantly,…

BitPay’s popular Bitcoin wallet, Copay, has been compromised – and your cryptocurrency might be at risk. Developer BitPay has warned users that its open-source wallet Copay has been infected with malware designed to steal users’ private keys. This means anyone running the malicious versions of its app “should assume that private keys on affected wallets may have been compromised.” BitPay says the malicious code was deployed on versions 5.0.2 and 5.1.0, but it remains unclear whether – or how widely – the flaw has been exploited. For the record, Copay boasts over 100,000 installs on Android. The developer says that its…

Uber fined €1M for 2016 data breach by Dutch and British privacy watchdogs

Nov27

The Dutch Data Protection Authority (Dutch DPA) just announced it’s imposing a €600,000 fine on Uber and its Dutch subsidiary Uber B.V. for violating Dutch data breach regulation in 2016. Simultaneously, UK’s Information Commissioner‘s Office (ICO) declared Uber will be fined £385,000 (around  €433,000) for the same data breach back in 2016. Uber concealed the 2016 breach for over a year, in which hackers gained access to personal data of 57 million people worldwide, such as names, email addresses, and telephone numbers. The company thereby failed to comply with laws stating it must report data breaches to the authorities and the…
