AirPlay 2 is coming to more TVs, proving Apple can change its mind

Apple hasn’t had the best few weeks. Not only did the company have to drop its revenue forecast for Q1 2019 by a whopping $9 billion, it has also had to reduce the amount of iPhones it’s making by 10 percent. Ouch. Honestly, I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Apple makes premium (read: expensive) products, so at some point its astronomical growth is bound to stall. It’s inevitable. What’s wrong with being a successful, stable company? To answer that rhetorical question, money. For better or worse, big public companies don’t operate on the idea of consistent non-growth. They work on…

People would rather pay robots for sex than people

A new study from Finland suggests people may view sex with a robot more kindly than they view sex with a human sex worker.  The University of Helsinki found that from a sample of 432 participants, the majority of respondents were more accepting of a human paying to have sex with a robot than a human paying for services from a sex worker.  Research into the attitudes towards sex robots is gaining traction across the academic world. Earlier this week, we reported that Concordia University in Montreal is seeking participants for its study into “attitudes, beliefs, and opinions about sex robots” via a 90-minute online…

Police fear the wife of one of Norway‘s richest men is being held ransom for an eye-watering 9 million euros ($10M) – payable only in the popular cryptocurrency Monero. On October 31, Anne-Elisabeth Falkevik Hagen, who is married to Norwegian millionaire Tom Hagen, suddenly disappeared from her family home in Lørenskog, reports news outlet VG. Sources have now indicated that a written message was found in the Hagen house, which demanded a $10 million ransom be paid entirely with the privacy-focused cryptocurrency Monero. The note also made threats to the life of Hagen should the media or law enforcement be contacted.…

The European Banking Authority (EBA) has called for new pan-EU rules on crypto assets in a bid to heighten consumer protection. According to an official report released today, the new set of rules would override the current patchwork of different crypto asset regulation across the EU, which could derive in unfair competition across countries. “Typically crypto assets fall outside the scope of EU financial services regulation,” reads the report. “Moreover, divergent approaches to the regulation of these activities are emerging across the EU. These factors give rise to potential issues, including regarding consumer protection, operational resilience, and the level playing…
