The strange zen of the data diet

It’s said that moving — along with getting divorced, or contracting a life-threatening illness — is one of the most stressful events you’re likely to experience in your lifetime. Two weeks into my move, I’m starting to feel the pressure. No, I’m not talking about the boxes piled up around my ankles. The fact that I still haven’t found my cutlery and thus have been using and re-washing the same knife and fork isn’t causing me anxiety. I’m talking about the Internet. I’m a journalist. My wife is a publicist. We both work from home and depend wholly on the…

Anonymous Bitcoin miners are taking over the network

The world’s most popular cryptocurrency is a now a little bit more decentralized, thanks to the waning influence of Bitmain and the return of the anonymous Bitcoin miner. Blockchain research unit Diar has published new data revealing exactly who has been validating the Bitcoin network. Analysts determined that mining pools either owned by or heavily tied to Bitmain (Antpool, BTC.com, and ViaBTC) are now validating far less Bitcoin blocks than this time last year. In fact, it is “unknown” anonymous Bitcoin miners who are currently validating more blocks than any individual pool. “[Unknown] miners closed December having solved a whopping 22…

Video: 5 things we love about the new Macbook Air – and 4 we don’t

Jan15

We’re huge fans of Apple laptops at TNW. Not only do most of us work on MacBooks many of us also have our own Apple laptops. I’m sorry to report that I’m one of those people. So, whenever Apple releases a new computer – like the fresh-from-the-factory MacBook Air – it’s a big deal. After getting my dirty mitts all over it, there were some things I loved and others I, well, didn’t Luckily for you, TNW has put together a lovely video breaking all this down. But if video isn’t your thing? Well, there’s an article for you below. We’re decent like that.…

Dankly, Anker announces two USB-C to Lightning Cables

Jan15

Oh yeah, wrap a bandana round your head, hop on your hog, and roar off into the desert: Anker‘s planning on releasing two USB-C to Lightning cables. One (mainly) for charging, and the other for audio. Anker will release the first cable-to-end-all-cables in March, and the second one in April. All I can say is I’M SO PUMPED. First, let’s take a look at the first USB-C to Lightning cable – the one meant for charging: Basically, this release follows Apple’s 2018 announcement that it would let Made For iPhone (MFi) accessory manufacturers create USB-C to Lightning cables. Of course, Apple already…
