Facebook launches Spectrum to make uploading large images easier

Phones with 48-megapixel cameras are now a thing. In fact, I’ve got one on my desk literally right this second. These handsets are capable of producing bigger and more richer photos. To ensure it’s still easy to upload these humongous pictures to the Internet, Facebook today open-sourced a handy tool called Spectrum. Spectrum is an image processing library for Android and iOS. Bitcoin ransomers arrested for kidnapping in South Africa

Police in Mpumalanga, South Africa, have arrested two suspects who demanded a Bitcoin ransom following the kidnapping of a teenage boy and the attempted kidnapping of a 13 year-old girl. The kidnappers demanded just over $100,000 (1.5 million rand) worth of Bitcoin in exchange for the safe return of the teenage boy who was snatched in May last year. The boy was returned to his family a few days after the kidnapping, it was not disclosed whether the ransom had been paid, Times Live reports. Female research scientists are more productive than their male colleagues, though they are widely perceived as being less so. Women are also rewarded less for their scientific achievements. We’re just over two weeks into 2019, and one of the biggest data leaks in recent years has surfaced. Today, renowned security researcher Troy Hunt reported a massive leak consisting of  773 million unique email IDs and 21 million unique passwords, which he refers to as Collection #1.  Hunt said that multiple people reached out to him last week and pointed to a constellation of 12,000 files with a total size of 87GB, and nearly 2.7 billion records, hosted on MEGA.
