What we learned from Kara Swisher’s brutal interview with Jack Dorsey

Kara Swisher’s long-anticipated interview with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey felt momentous, as though it was the Frost/Nixon interview of the tech world. In one corner stood the fiercest interviewer in technology journalism. Swisher is equal parts Walt Mossberg and Jeremy Paxman. In another corner stood the reclusive and controversial CEO of the most important social media property on the planet. At the insistence of Dorsey, the pair conducted the interview over Twitter. This, in retrospect, was a fatal mistake, as it rendered the conversation almost impossible to follow. You’d have more luck trying to understand a Jean-Luc Godard film. In…

You expect to find questionnable advice about storing your Bitcoin on the internet, but you never expect it to come from one of the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange desks. Well, Coinbase is here to prove that nothing is impossible. The exchange is rolling out a new backup service that encourages users to keep an encrypted copy of their private keys to their personal cloud storage accounts, like Google Drive and iCloud. “This new feature provides a safeguard for users, helping them avoid losing their funds if they lose their device or misplace their private keys,” Coinbase wrote in a blog…

Important security lessons learned from Apple’s creepy FaceTime bug

Feb13

Posted In: Around the Web, syndication

Earlier this month, I woke up to a disastrous security bug in Apple’s FaceTime that could let anyone easily eavesdrop on iOS and macOS devices. In case you haven’t heard about it yet, FaceTime, the audio and video conferencing app that comes preinstalled on all iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers, had a major security flaw that could let a caller hear the audio from the device they were calling before the person on the other end accepted or rejected the call. The bug could easily be reproduced and exploited. All you need to do is initiate a call with FaceTime and use its…
