Ask TNW’s founders ANYTHING about our Financial Times deal

By now, you might have heard the news that TNW has sold a majority stake to the — and we don’t use this word lightly — venerable Financial Times. For us, it’s an honor and a tremendous vote of confidence in our business. Yesterday we put out a press release that announced the news and gave some basic details on the reasons and strategy behind it. That’s nice, but we’re also a publisher with multiple ways of disseminating information. One of those ways is our very own  TNW Answers, a platform for real-time discussions between interesting people and our audience. We…

Canada’s tax agency is reportedly cracking down on cryptocurrency investors in the country. Multiple sources have confirmed that cryptocurrency holders have been targeted with audits by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), according to Forbes. The agency is thought to have sent questionnaires probing investors about their bitcoin-related activity over the past decade. Today’s news comes after scammers posing as the CRA contacted unsuspecting civilians to demand tax payments in Bitcoin last year. A struggle Due to the fact that they’re unregulated, governments have found it notoriously difficult to tax cryptocurrencies. In fact, Canada is not the first country to launch such…

The most troubling parts of Nintendo’s new Labo VR kit, ranked

You know Nintendo, right? Then you’ll probably be aware of the Labo, a set of cardboard add-ons that transform the company’s Switch console. Well, today the company announced the next instalment in the series: the VR kit. Now long time readers might remember our battles with Nintendo over the Labo, but this isn’t another instalment of that. Not this time at least. When I flicked through the press pictures that accompanied the launch announcement, I was horror struck. Shocked. Appalled. I peed a little. I mean, how could you not after facing down shot after shot of people smiling hollowly…

After months of anticipation, social trading platform eToro has finally launched its cryptocurrency-to-cryptocurrency exchange desk in the US. At present, the service will only support cryptocurrency trading, but the plan is to gradually add other assets to the platform. eToro’s new exchange will be available in 32 states, though the full list is not yet available. In addition to the exchange, eToro is also bringing its standalone cryptocurrency wallet – available for both iOS and Android – to US-based users. At launch, eToro will support trading for 13 different cryptocurrencies, but is yet to specify which ones. For the record,…

Research: Ethereum’s new economic model not ‘lucrative enough’ to keep it secure

Mar07

There’s a monumental shift planned for the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap. Ethereum is edging closer to its new consensus algorithm, which promises to fix the platform’s scalability and transaction throughput bottlenecks – but a new industry report claims it might not work. Currently, Ethereum is much like Bitcoin in that anyone can join the network by simply contributing their computing power to ensure transactions are legit (Proof-of-Work). Its developers are set to revamp how the network selects and rewards those who keep the blockchain trustworthy and secure. Ethereum holders will instead be able to use the weight of their balances to vote on…
