Bitcoin scammers used Facebook ads to swindle Chinese businessmen out of $250K

Authorities have sentenced three criminals for robbing a group of Chinese businessmen in Dubai. The crooks stole over $250,000 (Dh1 million) from four businessmen after luring them to an apartment in Al Rafaa, Dubai at the end of March, local news reports. The businessmen were hooked by a Facebook post offering cryptocurrency for sale. The attackers showed proof they owned Bitcoin to the victims, after which accomplices of the attackers, dressed like police officers, raided the apartment and tied the businessmen up. One of the victims was able to free himself and detain one of the attackers until the police…

Problem gamblers more likely to obsessively trade cryptocurrency, research finds

A new study has linked cryptocurrency trading obsession with problematic gambling – those who bet too regularly are at an elevated risk of trading cryptocurrency more frequently. The study, which surveyed 876 adults who had gambled at least monthly, found that more than 50 percent of participants had traded cryptocurrency over the past year. Additionally, over 75 percent of high-risk stock traders also traded cryptocurrencies. This, the research concludes, is likely due to their impulsivity and belief that they can beat or outsmart the fledgling cryptocurrency market.
