We’ve reached a new level of descent into the world of emoji-based interactions. Starting March 1 of this year, drivers in Queensland, Australia will be able to personalize their license plates with an emoji. There are some limits to this, obviously; you can’t have a license plate with only emojis, and currently, there are only five emoji options. Of course, you’ll also be paying more. Entry-level prices are 475 AUD, or $340 USD. Being located in the United States, this doesn’t affect me personally, but I couldn’t help but notice the volume and intensity of reactions to this new offer.…

As expected, Apple today announced a dramatic overhaul of the Apple TV service, adding new subscription TV services, in addition to bringing the app to a swathe of new platforms. Let’s start with Apple TV Channels. These are analogous with existing premium cable stations but adjusted for a digital audience that overwhelmingly prioritizes ad-free and on-demand experiences. Customers can choose the channels they want to subscribe to, rather than purchasing a bundle that combines dozens of stations. Apple has partnered with dozens of legacy broadcasters, like HBO, Starz, and Showtime, as well as Hulu and Amazon Prime Video. The latter…

Apple today revealed it’s launching its own, “better” version of a credit card, called Apple Card. It’s designed to work with the iPhone, but is also a physical card made out of titanium, married with special Wallet-based rewards. Apple CEO Tim Cook thinks it could be the biggest revolution in credit cards “in 50 years.” The new Apple Card is essentially a credit card built within the iPhone, created in partnership with Goldman Sachs and Mastercard. It lives within the Apple Wallet app, and exists across all Apple devices. It purports to come without fees of any kind, namely late fees…
