Big tech is broken. From Uber’s sexual harassment scandal to Mark Zuckerberg’s Congressional testimony and Elon Musk’s Twitter meltdown, tech disillusionment is definitely starting to set in for many people. It’s a shift that’s perceptible everywhere. Last month, at SXSW — normally an unabashed celebration of new tech — Elizabeth Warren, one of Big Tech’s biggest enemies, was one of the main speakers.   A growing number of people in the industry dares to ask the hard questions: What do we do about privacy? How do we keep AI in check? Can personal data be harnessed to do good? At…

US authorities have arrested three men after taking down a dark web drug ring which laundered $2.3 million in cryptocurrency. Chester Anderson and co-conspirators Jarrette Codd, and Ronald Maccarty were indicted for operating storefronts on the dark web that sold and shipped hundreds of thousands of counterfeit Xanax tablets and other controlled substances to buyers across 43 US states. As part of the crackdown, investigators seized “the largest quantity of pills in New Jersey State history,” including approximately 420,000 to 620,000 alprazolam tablets, as well as some 500 glassines of fentanyl-laced heroin and quantities of methamphetamine, ketamine and GHB.  The authorities…

If you want to find out how our weed experiment went, watch the video above. It tracks the entire journey from start to finish – and you’re gonna want to see how it ends. The video above is pretty much all about weed. The article, less so. It looks more at the Smart Garden 9 hardware itself, but is just as fun. I promise. Cool! So, uh, what is it? As the name suggests, it’s a smart garden. But what actually is that? Basically, it’s a device that lets you grow plants while doing (almost) nothing. Click and Grow – the…

In a surprise move, Apple and Qualcomm finally agreed to end their long-term beef, and sign a six-year license agreement deal. Apple will also pay an undisclosed amount to the chipmaker as part of the settlement. Hours after this announcement, Intel said that it’s exiting mobile 5G modem market, paving way for a Qualcomm–modem powered iPhone in the future: Intel Corporation today announced its intention to exit the 5G smartphone modem business and complete an assessment of the opportunities for 4G and 5G modems in PCs, internet of things devices and other data-centric devices. Before we discuss what this means for…
