Why an AI’s personality is more complicated than Alexa’s

When we think of Alexa having a personality, we’ll describe it as her responding to certain things in a certain way – what she does or doesn’t do based on a question or request. That’s because Alexa doesn’t really have a personality. Almost every single AI or voice-based product doesn’t have one. When The Food Network discusses how Rachael Ray’s “personality” will come through the voice of Alexa, what they mean is that they’re adding expressions in her voice. Expressions are what we’re substituting for personality in robotics and AI – a series of movements, sounds, and displays that they…

The difference between good and bad PR is a simple ‘no’

Apr22
by Sindy Cator on April 22, 2019 at 9:30 am
Posted In: Around the Web, Podium

We all have an intrinsic human trait where we think that it’s all black or white, do or do not, kill or be killed — and when talking shop about PR — pushing an announcement, or not. Perhaps owing to the high-paced nature of the startup industry and a not-so-healthy dose of “hustle porn,” executives tend to approach PR with a quantity over quality mindset when it comes to perceived value. Unfortunately, this particular way of thinking couldn’t be any further from the truth. From companies sharing news about their nifty new office watercooler or launching alleged “bombshell” news daily…

Post Foldgate, Samsung delays Galaxy Fold launch in China

Samsung has reportedly postponed the launch events for its $2,000 Galaxy Fold smartphone in Hong Kong and Shanghai, according to reports by SamMobile and Engadget. The press events were originally scheduled for April 23 and 24. The company hasn’t announced revised dates as yet. While no reasons have been provided for the Hong Kong delay, Engadget, quoting National Business Daily, is reporting that the South Korean chaebol has cancelled the Shanghai event citing issues with the venue. The Galaxy Fold, one of the first smartphones with a foldable display to hit the market, has been recently in the news for…

Why philosophy and business should go hand in hand

Apr22
by Sindy Cator on April 22, 2019 at 8:00 am
Posted In: Around the Web, Podium

Business people and entrepreneurs like myself often talk about ‘nice to have’ and ‘need to have.’ The latter refers to things you cannot do without. In a start-up IT company like mine, this could be things like a computer, desk, chair, and mobile phone. Examples of ‘nice to have’ items could be a foosball table or a designer lamp. Transferred to the world of education, the logic in recent years seems to be that the humanities should be trimmed because these are merely ‘nice to have’ for society. This is the subject of discussion in my home country of Denmark,…

CHEAP: Level up your gaming with $300 off on Razer Phone 2

Apr22
by Sindy Cator on April 22, 2019 at 7:31 am
Posted In: Around the Web, Plugged

If you spend plenty of time playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) or Fortnite on your phone, it might be worth upgrading to something that’ll take your gaming to the next level. I’ve got good news on that front. There’s a massive discount of $300 on the Razer Phone 2, so it’s now down to just $499. The Razer Phone 2’s a very good looking phone that launched last year. Its super bright (600 nits) 120Hz LCD display and its boxy design might be the most eye-catching things about it, but it’s got a fair bit of muscle under the hood to run…
