How AI can help close the gender pay gap and eliminate bias

202 years. That’s how long it will take to close the gender gap unless we speed up the process, says a recent report by the World Economic Forum. And looking at the statistics, this makes sense. A recent study by Pew Research found that the gender pay gap has narrowed but stayed relatively stable since… the 80s. Somehow, we’ve learned how to build self-driving cars and smartphones with more computing power than the first computers used in space travel, but we still haven’t figured out how to pay men and women equally. Luckily, social and government-led pressure is mounting. Movements…

Coinbase fires 30 workers and closes Chicago office after just one year

Prominent cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is set to close its Chicago office just a year after it was opened, and will let go around 30 software engineers in the process, reports Fortune. The group had been tasked with building a special “matching engine” product for high-frequency trading. A Coinbase spokesperson said the high-frequency trade technology was no longer a priority. Instead, the firm is to focus on other products like over-the-counter trading and custody services. Coinbase will reportedly relocate “a small number” of Chicago-based matching engine devs to its main office in San Francisco, as well as maintain a remote sales force in…

CHEAP: Stop cheeky pranksters with $115 off a Nest Hello video doorbell

Welcome to CHEAP, our series about things that are good, but most of all, cheap. CHEAP! There are a few classic pranks. A phone call pretending to be someone else is a quintessential example, so is throwing toilet paper over someone’s home or car. But the most archetypal of all? Well, that’s the time-honored tradition of ringing someone’s doorbell and, well, just fucking legging it. But, the days of being caught-out by this specific prank are done. So are the times of being surprised by who’s knocking on your door. Or not being able to look at the postman’s butt……

A Putin-opposing politician has raised more than $3M in Bitcoin

Despite a recent survey showing that most Russians actually know very little about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, it appears that one politician is a little more au fait with the technology. The man who is thought to be Vladimir Putin‘s main opponent, Alexei Navalny, has received over $3 million (591 BTC) worth of donations in Bitcoin over the last three years, CoinDesk reports. Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) publishes investigative reports that seek to shine a light on what it believes are illicit goings-on in the Kremlin. The politician has previously been investigated by the state which claimed he had “inflicted material…

How to Master the Art of Timeboxing

Apr24

During my ongoing quest to find the crème de la crème of productivity and time management hacks, I’ve discovered and experimented with a variety of techniques. Some of these approaches have been little-known secrets hoarded by successful people. Distinct pathways have been discussed so much that at this point — they should be common knowledge. What I’ve noticed, however, is that there is no such thing as a one-size fits all approach to anything. What works for one entrepreneur doesn’t guarantee that it will work for you. I’m a big fan of Tim Ferriss. But, plenty of business owners don’t…
