"Israel says the IHH flotilla will not enter Gaza directly through its blockade, unless they go through Egypt. That's like challenging a mouse to walk under a parked bus to get the cheese at the other end. It may take a little more time, but it won't stop the end result." ~ Yasha Harari

The CIA wants you to believe it traded assassinations and espionage for likes and shares

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has a bit of a reputation. Depending on what side you’re on, it’s either a necessary cog in the intelligence machine, or an evil organization used to spy on citizens both foreign and domestic. But whatever you believe, it’s become increasingly clear that the CIA isn’t what you think it is. And that’s by design. For decades, whenever someone mentioned the CIA it was typically under the guise of a favorable outcome or an explosive new allegation. It was a spy movie in that no one outside the agency truly understood what was happening. The…

‘You Can’t Take My Door’ is both country music and AI’s greatest achievement

We know there’s no justice in the world because the Country Music Awards, held earlier this month, didn’t issue the evening’s most prestigious accolade to Botnik Studios for its AI-generated lyrical masterpiece “You Can’t Take My Door.” The song, sung by humans Elle O’Brien and Timothy Joyce, was written by Recursive Neural Network, which was programmed by Botnik Studios. As with most neural networks, the developers fed it data (jammed a bunch of country music into it), to create a similar, but unique output (it spit some fresh lyrics). Rumor has it, TNW’s US editor does the same thing if you…

It sure looks like the iPad is getting mouse support with iOS 13

Apr25

It goes without saying that Apple has dominated the tablet market, despite efforts from Google and Microsoft to have their say. But iPads lie in a sort of limbo for traditional productivity – better than a phone, but not quite as good as a laptop. A big reason for that is the lack of support for a proper mouse, but that may soon change. Several sources are reporting that Apple is working to add USB mouse support to iOS – perhaps as soon as iOS 13’s upcoming reveal during WWDC in June. These sources include MacStories’ Federico Viticci and developers Steve Troughton-Smith…

Why shadow IT is the next looming cybersecurity threat

Apr25
by Sindy Cator on April 25, 2019 at 8:04 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, Podium

Shadow IT is an issue that just about every organization faces on some level, but when I speak to executives and IT leaders, it’s simply not a topic that comes up. When I do bring it up, it quickly becomes clear that the tech industry as a whole underestimates the size and scope of the issue. And that lack of awareness and understanding is posing an ever-increasing threat to data protection and cybersecurity. Some executives I speak with haven’t even heard the term “shadow IT,” which refers to systems, software, or applications that individuals in an organization use on a…
