India’s government is once again looking to ban cryptocurrencies and regulate official digital currencies. According to a report by India’s Economic Times, the government has kickstarted inter-ministerial consultations on a draft bill, which has reportedly been shared with relevant government departments. Sources have revealed that several departments within the country’s government have already backed the notion of enforcing a complete ban on the “sale, purchase, and issuance of all types of cryptocurrency.” The committee also stated that since cryptocurrency could be used for money laundering, a ban could also be achieved under the existing Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).…

The New York State Attorney General (NYSAG) is reportedly building a case to sue cryptocurrency exchange, Bitfinex, and stablecoin, Tether. As court documents dated April 24 state, neither Bitfinex nor Tether are licensed to operate in the state of New York, and yet the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) believes New York-based investors did use the exchange to trade Tether. As a result, Bitfinex and Tether contravened US legislation designed to protect investors, including one which requires the firms to maintain relationships with banks that can “reliably hold the funds and process client deposits and withdrawals including banks that…

Interest in new technologies can grow blazingly hot before people’s attention gets turned toward something new. It is a common occurrence that a piece of tech on everyone’s mind today can be easily forgotten tomorrow. To find out which technologies professionals are still watching, be it a once-touted system or a development that may not have gotten the buzz it could have, I asked a panel of entrepreneurs from YEC the following question: Interest in new technologies can grow blazingly hot before people’s attention gets turned towards something new. What once-heavily buzzed or less-known tech or system are you still…

Amazon plans to cut Prime shipping times – and their workers will pay for it

There is no stopping Amazon from taking over the world. The retail behemoth had a blockbuster first quarter in 2019 with revenues of $59.7 billion and $3.6 billion in net income, an all-time record and more than twice what it was making a year ago. In addition, the third most valuable tech giant said that it plans to invest $800 million to make one-day shipping the default option for Prime members, thereby cutting down priority shipping times in half. Amazon hasn’t detailed whether the improved shipping times are a result of optimized processes, or of increased workloads for warehouse staff. But numerous…

Amazon is reportedly building a high-fidelity music streaming service to rival Tidal

Apr26

Posted In: Apps, Around the Web

Amazon is set to launch a new music streaming service later this year that will serve up tracks at higher quality than what most mainstream platforms like Spotify offer, reports Music Business Worldwide. That should see the retail giant go up against Jay Z’s Tidal – which offers two tiers of high-fidelity music – Deezer, and France’s Qobuz. According to the report, Amazon will price its service at around $15 a month and deliver “better than CD quality” audio, so it could undercut its rivals, all of which charge a minimum of $20 per month for access to their audiophile-grade…
