When you think of the daily life of an esports player, you might imagine something sedate. Professional gamers, by definition, sit at computers and work to hone their talents by staring at a screen and clicking buttons. But, as many of them will be quick to tell  you, there’s a lot of work that goes into improving play, and it’s not for the faint of heart. When I first started inquiring about what daily life was like for an active esports pro, I asked several coaches and managers what the biggest misconception is. One and all, the answer was the…

Julian Assange: Convicted, unrepentant, and behind bars

It was an ignoble end for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. After having spent almost seven years defiantly hiding in Ecuador’s London embassy, where he spread state secrets and bodily excretions alike, his tenancy was ended by several burly coppers who dragged him by into a waiting police van as he yelled incoherently about Gore Vidal. BREAKING: #Assange removed from embassy – video pic.twitter.com/qsHy7ZVPg5 — Ruptly (@Ruptly) April 11, 2019 The Met’s finest then took Assange, who at this point looked like the greasy lovechild of Rasputin and Saddam Hussein, to a Central London police station, where he was charged with…

More than ever before, there is a high demand in the workforce for an increased emphasis on education in mathematics and sciences for school-age students. After all, two-thirds of all available jobs will require postsecondary critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are obtained in math and science classes by 2020. To best serve the younger generation who will soon enter the workforce, STEM education should be available in every school. The areas of greatest concern lie in rural America. Some 8.9 million students, or about 20 percentof the public school population, attend rural schools. Rural students often do not have equal access to…

Video: The Big Face Box is a box that makes your face, uhm, big

May01

This video is part of our series on Lille’s Maker Faire. To stay up-to-date on releases (and to find out more), check out our master post here. We all have days when we lean on a window, look at a grey, grumbling sky, and think “why isn’t my face bigger?” Thankfully – truly a kneel on the earth and worm your fingers into the dirt sort of “thankfully” – there’s a solution: the Big Face Box. As the name (and headline) suggests, this is literally a box that when you put it on your head it makes your face big. To…
