Microsoft today announced the Surface 2 with AT&T 4G LTE support, a 64GB version of the Surface 2 tablet that also features mobile broadband. The device is available now for $679; given that the Surface 2 without LTE retails for $549, you’re paying an extra $130 to ensure you’re (almost) always online. Curiously, Microsoft chose to announce the device after it already appeared in its retail stores and at Best Buy,last week on March 11. Nevertheless, all the details are now available, and we can see exactly what the company wants to share about its latest device. In addition to…

Microsoft today revealed three major announcements regarding its OneNote offering: a free version of OneNote for Mac, a freemium version of OneNote for Windows, and a new cloud API for first- and third-party apps to communicate directly with OneNote. With the launch of OneNote for Mac, Microsoft says OneNote is now available “on all the platforms you care about” and “they’re always in sync.” That includes the PC, Mac, Windows tablets, Windows Phone, iPad, iPhone, Android, and the Web. As for the free version for Windows, it has no ads nor any limit for how long you can use it…

Brainly
A great thing about education is that it’s not only a field ripe for disruption, but there are seemingly infinite ways to approach that disruption. While massive open online courses (MOOCs) are bringing education to literally anyone with the Internet (themselves being disrupted by mentor-driven training initiatives) some players take to “socialize” the learning process and essentially crowdsource homework. One of the startups of the latter type is Brainly, a 5-year-old Poland-based company, which also happened to win the The Next Web’s Polish Startup of the Year 2013 award. It has already reached more than 23 million unique users per month and recently launched 12 new…

At the Game Developers Conference (GDC) today, Google announced a slew of improvements for Google Play Games, its cross-platform game service and SDK for Android, iOS, and the Web. New features include game gifts, multiplayer invites, and cross-platform multiplayer with newly added support for iOS. Game gifts are exactly what you’d expect: a new service that lets players send virtual in-game objects to anyone in their circles or through player search. Multiplayer invites is also quite straightforward: the Play Games app allows players to add each other to their game. As for Google Play Game services, multiplayer support has been…

After announcing its mobile software development kit (SDK) earlier this month, Twitch today revealed one of the first smartphone and tablet games that will be taking advantage of it. Asphalt 8: Airborne, the arcade racing title developed by Gameloft, will be the first game to support built-in Twitch streaming. Without any additional hardware or software, players will be able to stream gameplay live to their Twitch channel, alongside audio and video sourced from their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. The latter means players can easily narrate what’s happening on stream, explain complex techniques and quickly respond to viewer questions. In addition,…
