Daily Dose News Roundup

  • NHTSA says the Tesla Model Y is the first car to pass its new safety tests. The agency is simultaneously investigating 3.2 million Teslas for crashing.
  • Jeff Bezos’s representative just left the board of a startup that raised $1.4 billion on his name. The first truck has not been built.
  • Snap lost a 400 million dollar AI deal, 20 million dollars a month to the Iran war, and 24 per cent of its stock price. The AR glasses had better work.
  • Volkswagen just became Rivian’s biggest investor. It is not buying trucks. It is buying the software its own engineers could not build.
  • Pinterest just crossed $1 billion in quarterly revenue. The bet that made it work was not social media. It was search.

Quotable

"Obama demanding Israeli withdrawal to the pre 1967 lines before asking the Palestinians to recognize Israel, is about as likely to make peace as telling the little kid to give his milk money to the big bully in order to talk about stopping the bullying." ~ Yasha Harari

At an event in San Francisco today, Microsoft announced Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS), a new service that brings together its existing enterprise management solutions, such as Intune and Azure Active Directory, into a “holistic offering.” Speaking at the event, new Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella reiterated his emphasis on a mobile-first/cloud-first approach for the company with the tagline “a cloud for everyone on every device.” He highlighted the Enterprise Mobility Suite as a crucial component of Microsoft’s enterprise efforts. “[The Enterprise Mobility Suite], perhaps to me, is the most strategic piece of what infrastructure development we are doing in support of enterprises,” Nadella said. Marketers are making significant investments in content marketing, and rightfully so. According to Rishi Dave, chief marketing officer at Dun & Bradstreet, today’s consumers are entirely self-directed in their buying journeys. Content helps empower these audiences to make educated and informed decisions. The challenge with content marketing, however, is exactly what makes it awesome. The competition for eyeballs is fierce. Not to mention, human attention spans are getting shorter. According to one Web use study, the average attention span in 2012 was eight seconds. Even goldfish are easier to engage. Their attention spans? Nine seconds. Content marketing programs need more…

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for iPad feature a ribbon interface just like the one featured in Office for Windows and OS X. The trio of apps are much more powerful on the tablet than the smartphone, but naturally aren’t comparable to the desktop versions. You can store documents on the iPad itself, but you can…

It seems Amazon is ready to break into the living room in a big way. The technology giant sent out invites today for an event in New York on April 2, which will cover “an update to our video business”. The invite shows a coach with a bucket of popcorn on the floor, but otherwise that’s it. Rumors have been rife about an Amazon set-top box for some time and the latest reports point to a small streaming dongle similar to Google’s Chromecast. A video game console is also reportedly in the works – an earlier leak revealed what appears to…
